    Hey all,

Thinking of building my next pc, wondering if you could pore over the specs and so on and tell me if I'd be better going with anything else/hardware compatibility etc... (most products taken from Marx)

It's for general use, will be using onboard sound and gfx for the time being until the moolah builds up. Net, dvd, music, officey-type things, printer sharing, etc etc until I can afford gfx card etc when I'd think about using it for gaming, possibly add an extra hdd etc etc

    Case:
Bog standard with 350w psu - don't know if I should get a better PSU - feedback appreciated based on processor etc.

    Mobo:

    Asrock 775V88 So775

    Via PT800 Chipset (533/800Mhz FSB)
    Supports Hyper-Threading Technology
    4x dual channel DDR PC333/400 (max. 4GB)
    2x S-ATA 150 (Raid 0, 1), 2x UDMA133,
    1x AGP8x/4x (1.5V), 5x PCI
6-channel Audio, 10/100 network on board
    6x USB 2, ATX Formfactor

    Processor:

    INTEL Pentium4 3Ghz 800 So775

    Memory:

    DDR-RAM 1GB PC3200/400

    MDT Double Data Rate 400Mhz, PC3200, 184pin
    CL2.5, 16 chip (64Mx8), unbuffered

    HDD:

    Samsung S-ATA 80GB 7200

    Samsung SP0812C, Serial-ATA 150
    7200rpm, 8MB cache

    DVD/CDR:

    Samsung DVD/CD-RW 52x/32x/52x/16x

    Samsung SM352 IDE DVD-ROM (16x/48x) and
    CD-RW (52x/32x/52x) combo drive
    burn proof feature,

    Wireless:

Have a 54m pci in a box here somewhere.

    Monitor:

Have a 15" tft to use for the time being.

Same for mouse, keyboard, etc etc. Will run XP pro. Might think about getting into linux too so any feedback there appreciated.

    Thanks all :D

    Chris x

Oh and I'd be open to switch to AMD too so any opinons on pentium vs athlon (maybe athlon 64 - any benefits?) would be great

Get a better one as the stock ones are noisy.

And a 120gb 7200 rpm drive would be considered stock basics these days. You could consider an 80gb main drive and another ata drive as backup. Pick up say a 40gb on here for 30 or so and be safe knowing you have backups.

money's a consideration so would probably go for 80 to start out then get a 40 or another 80 eventually
