    I can't believe this!
    BBC website

They changed the calls for the lineout only a few days before the test and everyone got confused over the new calls! He was afraid the AB's had figured out the old calls!

In my opinion the seemed to know the new ones too!

George Hook said this on the Dunphy show yesterday morning. Puts the whole lineout fiasco into a new light doesn't it?

    My god its simple

Have something like Lions tour - L i is the 2 jumper n s t is the middle and u r is the back. Have them in sets of 3 so that you can reverse them or mix them between matches and for example say lineout call on the last letter (ie) edi342 meaning the 2 jumper. Man this is basic sh!te

Another problem allegedly was that "Byrne insisted on making the calls himself".

Clear to me. I'm hooker: I call, end of story.

So what calls have you guys used?

F#ck sh!t ball was one we used in Connacht underage.

I think Woodward may be covering for the forwards coach, who was quite paranoid - I read about this the day after the game.

I don't know - should be the captain or pack leader that makes the calls. AFAIK, Bryne was not the pack leader. Corry was the captain after BOD went off so should have made the calls.

Where the ball goes in the lineout determines the play that occurs immediately after. Therefore, the scrum half should only have to speak to the pack leader to tell them what kind of ball they want (quick off the top, slow maul ball etc).

    Edit:
Ironically, when we beat England in Lansdowne road a few years ago, England were still using the Lions lineout calls, which obviously Keith Wood knew. Apparently he couldn't believe they hadn't bothered changing them, so he knew where they were throwing to all day!

I should have been more clear - I mean that the hooker should make the call in terms of deciding which jumper to go to - he's knows the throwing conditions and the lineout best. And he should have discussed with PL and #9 to decide the _type_ of ball they want, as in off the top, mauled etc.

That, plus I like to shout in a very loud voice :)

I still dunno, the P.L./Captain should know how things are going - also, if the hooker is making calls I think it means one more chief on the park and one less indian...

    This I can understand :)

PL/Captain are all too often concerned about other areas of the game. A hooker is concentrating on his major tasks of hooking at scrum, and the lineout. In this area he should be expert, and in this area he should be chief :)

Of course, hookers are quite often packleader/captain/playmaker, and renowned for their exceptional good looks.

Well, that clearly goes without saying.

...Al, i reckon you are the exception that proves the rule...

Besides, everyone know the most important players in the pack are the props.... some one has to do the work in the scrum for lazy assed hookers.....and props are renowned for their exceptional wit.

I think you are confusing hookers with loose head props!
I also played connaught under age and f*ck Sh1t Ball was defo the most popular

    Also.
What a shower of whinging girls, only 2-3 days to learn the lineout calls, gimme a break, they are professional sportsmen supposedly the cream of uk+Ire its not rocket science.
I understand that there would be quite a few but some guys I played with
(normally hookers ha ha) couldnt tie their own shoelaces but could manage the lineout calls!
