I remember seeing a website years ago that made custom adaptors for that kind of thing. The prices were simply ridiculous though. €100 or something like that.

With some basic soldering skills and a cheapo PC gamepad you could probably wire one up yourself for a tenner.

I grew up playing on the C64 joystick and in fairness it was pretty ****. And they wear pretty badly. I remember the guys who made Sensible Soccer said they had to get sponsored by third party peripheral maker when they playtested the game because they broke so many of them.

I got myself two Hori sticks and an adaptor from Lik Sang and I've never looked back. Best sticks on the market.

thanks for your reply. i checked those sticks out. the special edition ones are pretty cool alright!

did you just buy a ps2 stick and use one of those ps2 to usb convertor things?

at the minute i'm using a ps2 joypad and one of those convertors for emulation on the pc. the problem i have is that the reaction time seems slow.
there is always a slight delay between the control movement and the execution on screen.
this occurs with all different emulated systems and games and my pc is fairly
well specced - ie its defo not caused by pc slowdown!!

    anyone any ideas?
    thanks

Try going to the control panel in windows. If it's windows XP there is an icon there called 'Game Controllers' which allows you to configure sensitivity etc. I'm sure there is something similiar for windows 2000, 98 etc (maybe called 'input devices' or something).
As for C64/Amiga joysticks being crap, that's true for the most part but it was very hard to fault Zipsticks. Unlike the ****ty plasticy ones (remember the Cheetah megasomething-or-other?) the zipstick used the same microswitches as arcade machines and had really strong suckers for welding it to your desk. I bet they could still compete today (except for the lack of buttons).

Well I couldn't stand it any longer... I swipped out my credit card and splashed on this Joystick (Competition Pro USB)

Yes... a decent old skool joystick. No hat tricks... no analog crap.. just good blastin'.. Sorry sorry where was I? Yes, I just can't stand the gamepads and mice are fine for FPS and the like... but I miss the old games and I hope this works out! :)

Will do... I should get to try it out next weekend if it makes it through the post. I ordered it from http://amiga-shop.amigakit.com/

Well, the joystick came... can't wait to try it out. Comes complete with a cheesy red ribbon attached. :) Will let ye know what I think of it. Must try some Amiga game or c64 shoot 'em 'up I guess... hmmm.

Wahey! Works a treat. Its responsive and I didn't even bother to calibarate it either! Detected straightaway. Booted up winvice and tried the c64 shooter "IO" and the only that was crap was me. A score of 10,050.

I definitely recommend it. I see this being handy for WinUAE and of course MAME!

Wow! I think that this is the first time I have used in a joystick in over 10 years!

I wonder does anybody do Quickshot ones. They had a 6-button pad on the Mega Drive that was just dreamy. Even better than the Sega Saturn pad.
