Hello everyone i am having a rather strange problem with my dvd+rw drive. I just after building a computer and put it all together. I turned it on and put in the windows xp professional into the dvd+rw drive and it loaded the windows software on but for some reason it didn't pick up the dvd+rw drive that just loaded windows. I turned the computer off and turned it back on so that i could see if the dvd+rw drive was in the bios but then it said that it was checking for new devices. It picked up the drive but it said that it was a none raid drive so i got into the bios and turned off the raid but the bios is still not picking up the drive. Does anyone have any suggestions. I have the drive set to secondary master. I was thinking that it might be something to do with it not being window service pack 2. It says on the website that that is a requirement. By the way the dvd drive is the new NEC ND-3540A

In the last 3months iv gone through around 4dvd drives. They just keep breaking, I think they are jsut making them badly because they are so cheap, which is kinda lame. Maybe check your ide cable, or bash it against a table and go get a new 1 :p .

Try it with different ide configs: primary slave, secondary master, etc...if you boot up with a 98 boot floppy with cdrom support does it see it? Or run ghost from the dos command is it seen in ghost. If so it would seem to be a mobo prob.
