Sweet guitars! especially the first one... Really nice finish but the gold hardware is a bit too bling for me

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

I think it goes really well with the amber finish. It's a beautiful guitar, it really is.

My Les Paul has gold hardware and anyone who says it's too much, having seen my guitar, is a cretin! Granted you haven't seen it yet Dave, but I'll educate ya soon enough. :p

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

Wooo... I got the ENGL today and cranked that mother up! All you need now is a decent amp dave.

How are you finding the hardware on that LP? I had to do a LOT of work on my SG to get it really playing well. I broke a machine head off it the other day too... I find those unsealed gibson machineheads really flimsy TBH. But now, Ive changed all of the pickups, coiltaps, killswitch, complete rewiring, new shiny chrome grovers and a got decent setup. Its an amazing guitar now, but when i got it, it was very average IMO.

In all fairness Weedhead, you might be going a bit overboard for a begginer.

Ya, I really suggest getting a fixed bridge on your first guitar. Locking Trems are a pain in the ass for an intermediate player never mind a beginner

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,848 ✭✭✭✭Doctor J

Ahhh I'd disagree there. You go for what you want to play and if that means a trem then do it. That one there has a wooden block installed to stop the trem from moving, so it can be played as a fixed bridge if needed. I think beginners should go for as good a guitar as they can realistically afford, bad guitars put you off playing. When you start you need as quality an instrument as you can find, learning is hard enough without having to fight the instrument too. To those who say "Oh well what if you don't take to the guitar and you've spent all this money?" I say if you let negativity enter your head you've already lost. Be positive. Enjoy playing on a good instrument and that is one. I think that's as good a guitar as Weedhead could hope to find and should cost no more than €400.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,152 ✭✭✭sound_wave

I totally agree Doc J. When I started playing about 5 years ago, I started on an utter piece of no name crap strat copy. If I had access to the guitars I now have back then, I believe my learning of the guitar would have been a lot faster.

I also agree with Dr J. If you start really over-analysing everything then you'd never buy any ****ing guitar. After all you're never going to get a perfect one....
At least that was my experience.
In the very unlikely event that you really dont like that one you can always sell it.

I reckon it'll cost about €444 if you get hit for the full VAT and duty, the dollar has strenghtened up a bit recently.

    Cost of Guitar 325.00
    Shipping 100.00 Guess
    Total in US$ 425.00
    Exchange Rate 1.20
    Cost in € €354.17
    Duty €13.10
    VAT €77.13
    Total €444.40

PS I STRONGLY recommend phoning Chris rather than email to avoid disappointment.

Alright im probably doing this completly the wrong way but im about 50/50 for the look of the guitar as well as the playability and through all my searching i have found some lefty guitars that have great palyability but sh*t appearances, with this guitar ive found it has a good level of playbility and the best looks too, i have begun lessons on the acoustic and i find that what ever electric i find i will adapt to that because im a beginner, i wouldnt fuss over certain factors like an experienced player . Wel anyway thats my opinion

The hardware on my LP is great. The machinehead on the high E could use tightening, but that's not a huge issue, and it only goes out of tune on massive bends. Other than that, everything's perfect. You can have a go of it in the not too distant future too. You bringing the Engl? I'm eager to take a spin of that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

Yeah I sure am. Speaking of which can you learn the Incubus song?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'm sure I can, if I have time. I'll try though. Really want to see what my Les Paul can do to that Engl. The bridge pickup is much hotter and nastier than I expected, quite a pleasant surprise. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

Hehehe... You gotta hear me SG with duncans through it

Stop it! You're making me drool on my keyboard!!!

Heh, it's the reason I type short answers to everything. Less time spent not playing it the better. It's right beside me now. :D You're hardly short of nice gear yourself Karl either! :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

No, but I'm an absolute hound for good gear, and I've still been eyeing up that Alpine White Les Paul. Oh I want one gooood.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

alpine white les paul (big drool)..only to be beaten by its double neck sg compadre

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

Ah yes, a white Les Paul Custom, kind of a dream guitar. I'll probably never own one, ever, but what a dream! The guitars I want are:

*Gibson Les Paul (Check! :D )
    *Gibson SG
    *Fender Strat
    *Jackson Rhoads

That'd cover all my bases really.

Oh but it will be mine at some stage! Many a year away at this stage though... Tonight is usually beering night, but I'm too broke after the Ibanez. I think I'll be living off whatever grubs and worms I can dig up for a few months when the Stealth arrives.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

post up your adress and i'll fly food supplies down to u by pigeon... it wasn't me i agree with your choice of must haves but i'd whip out the rhoades and stickin a JEM..oh yes!!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

The Rhoads is too cool to forsake!

Quality instruments are well worth missing alcohol gentlemen, always remember that.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

    Hmm... Must haves.

An ability to play might help! :D

Seriously though, aside from the Les Paul and Stealth, I can't see me wanting for anything else. A double-neck would be cool, but I don't know would I really use it. Maybe a nice bass would go down well?

Of course! I have the Ibanez sitting on my lap as we speak, jamming away between posts!

*Raises empty glass to Karl* It's the way to do it! :D I'm the same. I'd love to be able to play, but failing that, lots of nice guitars will do! :)

    That too!

It's better than I hoped to be honest, now that I've really got to grips with it, but the pickups just have to go. They really seem to generate a lot of excess noise and feedback compared to the DiMarzios in my BC Rich Virgin, but other than that, it is simply immaculate.

    Gear > Beer

That said, I am always stocked with Whiskey in case of Emergency.

Heh, memories of sitting on rocks in Gran Canaria at unholy times... Indeed though, I can go out every night for a week and blow a couple of hundred quid on booze, or I can get a new guitar... hmmm...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

but unfortunatly beer costs less so ... stay in for a month and you'd have a guitar...mad innit

Ah in fairness, unless it was some mad bash, the most I'd go out with on a night out is €20. That said, I only drink guinness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

That french beer in Lidl aint too bad... tastes like Miller... only €4 for 6 cans too... Yes i have an emergency back up of 750ml of whiskey. Im thinking of installing it in a fire extinguisher type dispenser... just in case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

€30's a good night out for me... That said i usually end up drinking to get drunk so in that case €12.50 does me nicely. Naggin of JD and three cans

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote
