US Visa Application

Has anyone any experience applying for a US Visa.

I spent a summer in US back in 1999 and have been back every year since for holidays. I would like to live and work there again.

I have been doing the Green Card lottery now for years without a sniff of a Visa.

When the girlfriend finishes college (shes back as a mature student) we would like to apply for a visa. The permanent one for skilled workers (E3 Visa is hard to get and has tonnes of paperwork and fees)

I have been reading the documentation and the H1B Visa might be the one for us as its a 6 year visa and may not have to go through Labor Certification. I have heard though that the whole process could cost between $1500 and $4000 before you get the visa.

If I would like to go in two years time should I be applying now?

So if you are doing it or have done it your advice would be much appreciated.

Its really really hard. If you are truely serious then I would seek advice from a good immigration lawyer. I know it will cost a few quid but it will be money well spent. Remember there are lots of grey areas and only a good lawyer will be able to find them for you. Unless you are a Doctor/Nurse or have a really unusual or sought after degree then I would forget the H visas.

Here is a good place to start. It will give you a good idea of what options (if any) are open to you.
