i am building my pc in the next few weeks. it will mainly be for usual stuff like music, internet and a few games. i do graphics from time to time as well. i have everything picked out but im not 100% sure if they're compatable with each other. i already have mouse, keyboard, monitor and floppy drive.

Here is what i was thinking of

    processor: amd athlon 64 3200 - socket 939
    motherboard: Abit AV8
    RAM: GeIL PC3200 400MHz DDR SDRAM 1gb
    HDD: 250gb Maxtor SATA
    DVD: Philips DVD-R1625K
Sound card: Creative sound blaster audigy 2zs
    PSU: enermax noisetaker TN4X56
    Graphics card: MSI 6200 AGP8X 128mb
CPU Fan: gigabyte GH-PCU21-VG heatsink & fan
Case fans X 3: Akasa 120mm case fans
Case: Sharkoon Clear acrylic computer case

the only thing im worried about is will the ram, motherboard, hard drive, graphics card and processor work together??? im not up on what ram will work with what motherboards so any help much appreciated. also if you guys think i've left anything out...

also will that psu be able to take the 3 case fans, the cpu fan and all the other stuff inside (btw if you cant tell, im a newbie to all this - so any tips on building also welcome!!!)

    cheers
    moe

The PSU is the 485W one is it? if so yes it will do fine. I wouldnt risk below 400 and personally 450 would be my minimum.

    PCI Express Connection (485W only)
Socket 775 Motherboard Connection (485W only)

what does that mean?! will that be compatable with my motherboard as its a scoket 939??

    Graphics card: MSI 6200 AGP8X 128mb

Thats not a great card i would think just looking at the name. Looks like the the FX5200 which is a bad card. How much is that card costing you in the first place ? Also if you dont mind not playing allot of games as stated in your post then it should be fine.

Why are you buying expensive Geil ram with other expensive components then a dud VIA motherboard and a dud graphics card?

nVidia X200 series graphics cards are always pure muck.

Spend €100 extra and get a 600GT or X700 as you pay a premium for the work that goes into manufacturing the cards in the first place, so a little extra goes a long way.

    Geforce 6600 AGPX8 256MB 128-bit €142

I suggest you get a mobo with built in PCI Express.

That 6600 above is about €20 cheaper in its PCI Express form(I have one)!

Yeah, I know that you'll be needing a lot of ram, doesnt mean that you have to waste money on Geil ram though. Thats leet overclocker ram. TwinMOS or Corsair value ram would do the job perfectly.

As for motherboards, I suggest anything that isn't VIA. Best to go for PCI-Express aswell. So basically, an nForce 4 motherboard. Epox 9npa+ is a fine board, in any of its types.

GFX wise, just because it's 150 doesnt mean its not muck. The 6600 for 142 is much better, the one that mp3guy posted

DemonOfTheFall, cheers for the advice. i think i will get the twinmos DDR2 PC4300 1024MB ram, its costing €88.

as for motherboard, i was looking at the EPoX EP-5LWA+, its €175 and has pci express and (i think) it supports the ram above.

graphics card is the geforce 6600 pci express version for €122.

Was steered away fro a seethru case on the grounds of wiring. Hope your is handy or it will look terrible. Some of those cases look class with just a few LED fans.

That motherboard and RAM are for Pentium 4. You need a socket 939 for athlon 64 and you need DDR memory too. DDR2 doesnt work with Athlon 64s at the mo.

sorry, should have said. i have decided to go for a pentium 4 instead.
