Has anyone here had Lasik, Lasek or any other myopia-correction surgery three or more years ago?

    How long?

    Any complications since?

    Is your sight still perfect?

What age were you when you had it done?

    What was your prescription then?

    Glad you did it/any regrets?

    Surely someone...?

Should this be in a medical forum rather than fashion? If so, could a mod move it, please?

Jeez, have some patience. You come out with a 'surely someone' just 3 hours after your original post on a summer Saturday afternoon! Chill out.

try and search lasik...there are defo a few threads here about it.

    anyway...

    I had it done in oct/nov 2000....

    when i was 22

I was minus 3.5 in each eye with a slight stigmitism in one.

No real complictions altho i seem to be a bit more sensitive to bright lights and tend to need shades even in mildly bright weather....altho my doctor assures me this is all in my head.... :D

Eyessight is still perfect altho i've been told it will deteriorate with age as per usual.

What I'd like to know is what the effects of eye surgery *generally* are as age goes on - are we going to have a blind generation?

(Think it couldn't happen? The Night of the Big Wind in Ireland in 1839 blinded thousands, who'd been sitting huddled around turf fires when burning ashes were flung up into their eyes. And in Africa several countries' economies are basically screwáilte because of the numbers blinded by bilharzia.)

As for the "anyone...?" - well, I thought I might have posted it to the wrong forum.

I've read most of what's on this forum, plus:

    Is laser eye surgery safe?

In just a matter of minutes - with almost no pain - you could have perfect eyesight. But little is known about the long-term effects of some treatments, says Esther Addley

    Refractive Surgery for Active Patients
    Weighing the Pros and Cons

Bruce H. Schwartz, MD; Bruce M. Zagelbaum, MD

    THE PHYSICIAN AND SPORTSMEDICINE - VOL 27 - NO. 10 - OCTOBER 1, 1999

In Brief: Athletes who need corrective lenses may ask about refractive surgery. Radial keratotomy, photorefractive keratectomy, and laser in situ keratomileusis surgically alter the shape of the cornea. All three methods generally result in vision sufficient to pass a driver's test without corrective lenses. A thorough patient evaluation and education about risks must be undertaken before an active patient undergoes any type of refractive surgery.

I ask the questions in my first post because, while I'm convinced by the people who say "I had the op, threw away my glasses, perfect sight, I'm really happy, praise the Lord...", I haven't found any *long-term* information to speak of. And my own sight is bad - more than -10 on both eyes.

I really, really hate wearing glasses - especially because I like to swim. And they don't suit me - they suit some people, not me.

On the other hand, I don't fancy life with a guide dog. If the whole thing's likely to unravel in 10 or 20 years' time, I'd like to know now.
