I use Winamp and have always wondered how many hours worth of music I have. I tried to put all my music in one playlist but it doesnt give an overall figure. Whats the best way to do this? Might be interesting to see what we all got.

    Thanks.

Not very convenient but you could add all music to WMP and it'll give you an exact figure

    \editz\ classic sig ;)

I tend to keep well away from WMP.. I believe I tried this before but WMP kept crashing, so I left it.

    hehe, thanks bud.

get Foobar2000 (an mp3 player). Load in all your files, select em all in the playlist, right-click and select properties.

"Total playing time" will be listed in the bottom of the new window. In my case its 3weeks, 6days, 3 hours and 12mins.

And no, this isn't all mine.

This would probably work with Winamp aswell, but i don't use that.

i can do it in winamp, just by adding directory -> my music and then scrolling down the window slowly so all the tags are loaded, something like 4 days for me

that would involve using the media library, which i don't think the OP does...
    (i'd highly recommend it btw)

I been buying an average of 2/3 albums a month for the past 2 years, but I had to stop to buy a PC. If it weren't than that, I'd have an extra €700 worth of CD's beside me. But, i'm finished paying for it, so i'll soon start buying cd's again, i've a big long to buy list....

Here's a quick calculator for estimating how many days of music you have.

You have to guess an average bitrate. Mine is 192kbps i reckon.

205 hours exactly, spooky isn't it...

I saw a guys list of mp3s the other day. He had 198Gb worth, impressed me at the time.

Well, lets just say i know someone who towers above all your puny few months of music.

Try about 1000 days of music. 1.8TB's at an estimated average of 180kbps.

Obviously all these MP3's are one's own legitimate data, ;) I'd hate to think anyone would be stupid enough to paint a fat juicy target for IRMA.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

It gets to the point where there's more music than there is time to appreciate it all.

afaik he works in some kind of archiving place. I believe its a big 10-15disk raid server. Its mostly music he tells me. Still, its rediculous! Not a chance in hell anyone could listen to even a 1/4 of that properly within a decade!

HDDs are available up to 400Gb (and 500 Gb real soon). If you get yourself 5 (4 real soon) of these and a IDE/SATA expansion card, anyone should be able to. Also LaCie sell an external hard-drive / NAS thats able to store over a terabyte.

Of course, none of this is cheap, but neither is buying that much music :)

Indeed, some of the figures mentioned in this thread are simply mad. Anyway I have 72 years worth of music.
