Playing a $25 FO on VC. I have about 5k chips which is in the top 5. The standard of the field is very very bad, but I dont know any of the players at my table so no real reads. Average stack is probably around 2.5 - 3k, theres about 60 players left. Blinds are 50 100

Nearly the entire field limps in, I have 9Qs and complete the small blind. The flop is 4 7 Q with two hearts and a spade. The flop is checked around. The turn is a 9 of spades, so there are now 2 flush draws and a gutshot. I bet out around 500 which is 2/3 of the pot with my 2 pair. Its folded to the button who makes it 1k more. He almost, but not quite has me covered. Whats my move?

Id move all in. You've got top two pair so unless he's made trips you have to be ahead. Its unlikely he made that bet with a straight draw.

Id say he's holding either AQ or flush draw with a pair.

well he hasnt got a set.he wouldnt slow play it on the flop with 2 hearts out there ( outside chance of 3 9s but unlikely).probably has A9 s or h .spades more likelyand came back 1k to see how strong his 9 while semi bluffing with the draw.i think you have to move in to make him pay for the draw

There's no reason to believe you're behind. Fair enough, bottom or mid set might slow-play a flush-draw flop, but with so many people in, that's unlikey.

The quick answer is to stick it all-in with the best of it.

But I dont think flat-calling is a terrible idea either: It gives you the chance to possibly make some money on the end, rather than just picking up the money in the pot now (which is likely if you push). Villain might still have second best hand which he may be compelled to call a medium bet with, and/or you might improve to your house and win a big pot.

In saying that, most of the time I'll stick it all-in, but if I'm feeling brave then I'll risk the flat call.

Given the action a misplayed set is possible or even 99. He could have the same hand Q-9 or is in trouble with 9-7, Q-7 but you'd have expected him to bet the flop with those. The action suggests a slowplayed set to me. A min raise on a turn that doesn't complete any draws is usually idicative of this. I think he has 44/77. Not having any read on a loose table makes this very dificult though. I say smooth call the reraise. If the river is a heart I think you should bet about 700 and use the scare card to stop him from pushing you off it. Any non spade or non 9,Q then you have to check the river and its a judgement call at that point.

On the contrary checking with a set is exactly what alot of beginners will do here. They read a book that talks about slow playing trips and they do this all the time regardless of the texture so I would not be surprised if they had a set at all.

If you look at the board the only real hand he can have is a set. You would want to be out of your mind to slow play AQ with that many players and on that board. A9 would just call. Like an idiot I didnt really think the hand through and went all in. Just after I pressed all in I realised he must have a set. most likely 444.

I think this is a clear fold, albeit a tough one.

Yes sorry I misread your post and thought you picked up a flushdraw on the turn.
