I was Wondering if any of the Lifters here can post some tips for someone like myself who might be considering lifting heavy weights and powerlifting? In the past iv did little or no squating and never did deadlifts so i would have to work on that now, all i have really done is bench, chest press,bi-cep curling, lat pull down, should press and all the basic weight exercises. I have been lifting weights a long time now on and off but i feel with the right diet tips and of course advice i will be able to start lifting heavy weights.

Currently i am 17 years of age (nearly 18), 6'2 and weigh 12 and 3 quarter stone. I would like to know how to reduce bodyfat a safe way ( the last time i went on a gym program i lost too much weight and muscle mass ) but also put on bulk to help muscle growth. Any tips or advice would be much appreciated! :)

hey man it is good too see other people my age getting into lifting. There are a few things to take into account - how long have you been lifting? you said you were trying to lose weight. if you are 6ft tall and a little over 12st why are you trying to lose weight? What bodyfat % are you? If you want I can give you advice on how to increase your lifts. Im 17 aswell and can bench 145kg squat 195kgs and deadlift 180kgs. tell me what you are lifting and explain your current program and I'll see if i can give you a hand improving your lifts.

    Thanks Liam,

I dont have a program as of yet, i just finished my exams and probably getting a set of heavier weights to use at home and maybe join a gym. For about 2 years iv been lifting weights on and off but within the past 6 months iv been doing alot of such things as bi-cep curling with barbell and dumbbells, sit ups, push ups, tri-cep excercises. At the moment i currently only have 40kg barbell set but its more or less childs play for me now and need to get a heavier set of weights.Im not sure what my body fat is, i wouldnt say its alot but what i mean is that i do want to put on weight to build up muscle, but at the same time (if possible) lower bodyfat ( basically putting on muscle mass and reducing fat ).

As for diet, i dont want to resort to using Creatine or some other supplements that would affect me in anyway, i try to use as much natural food as possible, but i dont know which food products are best to eat, for example steak is a good source of protein but people tell me it's bad for the heart and so on. I do though, drink alot of milk and take cod liver oil as well. But if their are any good healthy supplements that are out there and are alright to use, then i would be ok in taking it.

i went on a diet that auctually lost me all my weight and didnt stop my progress in the gym at all! i went on a pure protein diet! every morning i had a tin of tuna had another before i went to gym 1 again after and eithr chicken or steak or summat for dinner(was on creatine aswel) and i went from a bodyfat of 11 to 8!!! the occasional day i would eat carbs but they were always low fat!
and the reason in case any1 was wondering why so much fish was i was told that i needed the omega oil thingy! now mabey this wont work for every1 mabey i was a bit of a freak in how i gained muscle instead of losing it but still! worked for me! also my weight increased pounds in 4 weeks
