Buying laptops from the US?

Has anyone ever bought a laptop from the US/Canada? What with the dollar/euro rate it seems a good idea, but are there hidden costs like import duties? Does that still apply if you buy off Ebay?

Also, what about the keyboard layout....is there much difference? And the power plug should be different too right?
    Thanks.

import duties, charger plug, returns policy, keyboard is slightly different. there are too many to mention, also you have next to no consumer rights so buy in europe I would advise.
