How do i change it once i'm ready to activate?

When you are going to activate it there is an option to do it. Can't remember exactly cause its been so long.

www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml - never tried changing the key with it.

There is a way of reactivating XP without doing a reinstall but CBA looking for it ATM on the search unfrieindly microsoft.com site that don't use English the way we do.

Bit late now but - http://netsecurity.about.com/od/windowsxp/qt/aaqtwinxp0829.htm
Copy your original "wpa.dbl" and "wpa.bak" files from your floppy disk, CD or DVD into the C:\Windows\System32 folder - ie keep the old keys before the reinstall or reformat

If you have the activation window open you select 'activate by telephone' and there is an option to change the product key. You can then go back to the previous screen and activate it over the internet, should be no problem if it's all the same hardware

just try and activate, when/if it fails, it will ask you for another key.
