Do I need a passport?

    I want to take a holiday in germany, im quite ignorant as i havent been out of ireland in years and was wondering if I needed a passport to travel within the EU? if not do ryanair require a passport or would they except an age card?

    You need a passport to travel to any country within the EU, but nothing beyond that, and it won't get stamped unless you leave the EU.

    If you're only travelling as far as the UK, you don't even need a passport but you do require some form of identification (a driving licence, if you have one, is a good choice). Ryanair can be anally retentive when it comes to accepted forms of ID.

    Personally I tend to bring my passport anyway, in case there's any official who doesn't recognise or won't accept the format of my (dog-eared from sitting in my wallet) driving licence.
