Cover Ups

Apologies if this has been asked several times before:

Can anyone recommend somewhere that does tattoo cover ups? I got a tattoo on my back when I was 19. It's all black but I think it was done badly at first and never really looked right. Had it redone and the artist f*cked it up a bit.

I used to be proud of it but now if anyone asks me about it I just fob it off a bit. Don't even really like the design anymore. Lately I've been thinking about looking into having it covered up. What exactly is the procedure here. Do you go in and they take an outline of it and work on a design for you or what?

    T.I.A.

Most, if not all tattoo studios will do cover ups. Just ring/call into them and see what they can do for you.

Have a look at the sticky at the start of the forum, pick a studio in your area and go ask a tattoist, they will know best, the exact procedure would be down to the artist, some might take a biro straight to your skin to draw something out, others will do it on paper.
    Ask a pro.

Cool thanks. Well, since I've never posted on this board before and ain't really up-to-date with the good studios in Dublin:

Could you tell me what tattoo studios are generally regarded as the best? (Dublin city centre).

    there is the sticky.

The Best is very subjective, one is good at blackwork, another black and grey, yet another is good with colour, then you have tribal specialists, Borneo, Japanese, biomech, fantasy.......what flavour do you like? That'll be the best for you, sorry to give such a hazy answer but the best in art is a hard one to call.....it's not a kitchen suite or a car at the end of the day.
    Hope that helps.

    Thanks blub,

I know what you mean about the 'best'. I suppose what I meant was the most reputable/clean etc. There's place on Dorset St that I pass every day and I noticed they specialise in cover ups, had a look on their site. Quite interesting!!

I'm really only interested in black work, nothing too snazzy. I love tribal stuff but I fear my tattoo (though smallish) is a bit gammy looking to cover with something nice...

Anyway, I shall have a look into it.

    Thanks for your help.

Blackwork places that are particluarly good are, Gavin in Zulu and Art Tattoo which is listed on that sticky as Sacred Art, the Italians in there do some good blackwork too.
