Well, we're past the mid-point of the year, and I'm wondering about your thoughts. What are your thoughts on the best movies of 2005, and has it been a good year for film?

My personal favourite of the year is Sin City, but with honouable mentons to Batman Begins, Million Dollar Baby (that was 2005, wasn't it?) and Hotel Rwanda. I'm sure I'm forgetting loads; be sure to remind me.

Sideways gets my vote, with Sin City not too far behind.

and Batman Begins was good too.

    Best so far:
Sin City - coolest movie in a long time
Batman Begins - Batman how he's meant to be
Star Wars Ep III - Lucas finally delivered (my 2nd fav of the saga now)
Million Dollor Baby - I was enjoying this movie when with about half an hour to go my gut wrenched and my jaw hit the floor (it remained there for the rest of the movie)

    Honourable mentions:
The Machinist - Decent story and atmosphere but the shock value of seeing Bale so ****ed up made it a favourite of mine
Team America - Funniest movie of the year so far
    Closer - mmmm, Natalie Portman........

    Worst:
Alexander - honestly, this is the only movie that has ever made me feel like leaving the cinema is was so bad

The Amityville horror (Am I the only 1 that liked this film??)

Havnt seen sin city yet :(
But I sumhow hyped Batman Begins up in my head to be better than Tim burtons films, and thus was very let down.
Also Bales batman "Voice" erk'd me on several occasions.
Better than batman and robin tho. :p

Palindromes is the best film so far this year...

    That's my definitive answer.

Getting a bit sick of the typical "oh so controversial" Todd Solondz movie though!

Still, i think 'Happiness' is fantastic but didn't like 'Storytelling' as much. The plotline for 'Palindromes' intrigues me though!

Watched 'Hotel Rwanda' tonight and really enjoyed it... but mainly enjoyed it due to a fantastic (as always) performance from Don Cheadle. The man can't be faulted (except Ocean's Eleven / Twelve with that dodgy British accent)!

Palindromes is much better than Storytelling. I loved the first part of Storytelling, but the second part dragged a bit.

I just finished watching Welcome to the Dollhouse a few minutes ago, that's what reminded me of Palindromes. Palindromes is actually a sort of sequel to Welcome to the Dollhouse and it features some of the same characters.

Never seen 'Welcome To The Dollhouse'... might give both it and 'Palindromes' a look over the coming weeks!

Todd Solondz should really try and move away from the controversial angle... but then again, he's hardly obscure as anyone who's a film fan should at least know one or two of the films he's made based on the controversy surrounding them. I've always admired what he's done though.. not easy to get films with that kinda subject matter made in Hollywood nowadays. And for that.. i say fair f*cks to him!

Still, he should definantly make a light-hearted animated romp next! :D
