some advice needed

At the moment I am trying to loose weight. I need to loose at least a stone and a half, for some different reasons. a) for a slight medical reason b) returning to playing a higher level of football and c) appearance and general well being.

I currently weigh in at 15 stone (i'm 26 and about 5'8", male). I have lost about a stone in the last 12 months, due to a return to playing sport regularly.

However I need to get the next stone and a half off as soon as possible as the doctor will not refer me to the consultant for this condidtion until I loose it. I really want to get it sorted in about 8 weeks.

My problem is that I have a lifestyle that which makes dicipline very hard. I spend a lot of the time in the car, work late and eat on the run a lot. I have managed to curb my drinking (which was never that bad) to the odd two or three pints once every two weeks or so.

I have access to a cross trainer which I would honestly say I could use for about 30-40 mins a day max and I will be back pre-season training two days a week from the start of july, which will be pretty cardio intensive. I would safely say that that would be the most I could dedicate to exercise.

I really need advice regarding diet, at the moment it is all over the place. A few good days of eating right (no rubbish) is ruined by a couple of late night working fueled by snickers and dominios !!

Is it possible to loose this weight in 8 weeks or would I need to set myself a more reasonable target.

The medical condition I have is not related to my weight but hopefully will help and speed up the effects of a proposed procedure.

All in all I need some motiviation that my goal is acheivable.

I think with strict diet and exercise, its possible to lose 2lb a week. I think that your body will adapt to the same type of cardio exercise (CT), so you'll need to mix it up a bit (can you do running?). Cut out the dominos and snickers (obviously) and try not to eat after 7pm. A sandwich (brown bread) is far far healthier than a pizza and snickers. (Not as fun, though, but if you want to lose weight, you have to put the work in). Drink 2-3 litres of water a day too.

I never heard that before, running unfortunatly isn't a great option for me, I was out of the footie scene for a few years due to a bad knee and ankle injury. I am a goal keeper so I can get away with it in a match situation.

I suppose walking would suffice, i nice summer evening consitutional.

With regards to the cut-out-the-carbs argument, how valid is this, or should I just cut down on the bread, rice, pasta and spuds ?

Don't cut out the Carbs !!!! Been down this road, and its a nightmare. For a start you'll be really wrecked and if you do have medical issues this will do you no good in the world. You sound like you need to plan your food days a lot better. Try and cut out white things; white bread, pot's, wh rice ect and eat a bit of protein with every meal cos it makes you fuller. Try and bring food with you anytime you think there is a chance you might get stuck in work; couple of apples, wholemeal pitta bread with tuna and salad. Small amounts of nuts and seeds. Always being prepared really helps you to stay on the right road.
