Are you trying to do this through college? If so it is highly possible that it is completely blocked. Do other file sharing programs work for you? Kazaa, bearshare torrents etc?

Can't get Kazza to work either, does this mean i have to use a http tunnel or wait til i get a BB connection @ home?

If the staff at DCU are anyway good youll probably be best off waiting till youre home

There is a reason for it! I'd imagine the admin have taken extra measures to stop file sharing. Looks like you can use IRC, maybe try that instead.
