    Hi!

I would just like to know if anyone has travelled from prague to budapest by train, is it an easy trip to do, and what did it cost? have looked up a bit on the net but the sites i found were a bit confusing....have the opportunity to get very cheap flights to prague but have been there loads so just wondering if it would be worth flying there and getting the train to budapest. would appreciate any info anyway :)

Ehm, got a train from Prague to Vienna but we had to switch trains - the original train that I was on would have gone all the way direct to Budapest, so that's straight forward enough. There's probably a train every 4 hours or so but may be slightly more frequent then that.

Only major problem I had was finding the correct station in Prague, there's a few large ones and the one that's needed is a bit to the north of the city as far as I remember, you'll probably need to get a connection out to there (this was very frustrating because I hadn't a clue what was going on!).

Not too sure on the rail fare but I don't think it was too bad, and I reckon travel time is about 4 or 5 hours - I'd go to bahn.de and check an intinary for you but I'm too tired ;)

Click on the fahrplanabfrage button in bottom left and enter places and times.

Takes about 7 1/2 hours and is direct. Can't help with prices.

I did it a few years back on an inter-rail ticket, had to pay a supplement to get a bed on the overnight train. Its a straightforward journey and goes via Bratislava then after that follows the Danube for a bit so some nice views. Can't remember prices but it should be relatively cheap and you're saving on accomodation by travelling overnight anyway.
