Do you need to confirm long flights 24 hours before departure?

If it's a standard flight to the US I wouldn't bother. If it's part of a RTW deal, I would - what's the worst that can happen if there was no need to ring them?

you dont have to but what if the flight is delayed/cancelled/rescheduled ? you'd save yourself some hassle in the end if it was tbh

You should confirm any flight 48-72 hours beforehand, long or short.

Confirming flights should only really be done either when you are in the developing world where corrupt local offices have influence or where you are on a return leg of a 3-12 month long-haul flight.

Has anyone seen the KLM website lately the new feature where you can select your own seat and print your own boarding pass is really class and takes the hassle out of check-in as you don't have to arrive early to get a good seat but can drop your bags off once the ques have subsided.

Not true, i was getting an aer lingus flight from Paris to Dublin on Christmas eve a couple of years ago. The person i was flying with hadnt confirmed the flight as specified on the ticket and was told the seat had been given to someone else.

There is a mandatory compensation scheme in place for such incidents that was introduced by the EU commission. Not that it would be much use if you missed your planned Christmas but it shouldn't happen.

They managed to get her on a different flight thankfully but the airlines attitude was that the ticket said you should confirm, you didn't, so tough.
If it says to confirm then confirm it!!
