    Hey guys

Im new here so apologies if this is in the worng area please feel free to move if needed mods. I have also looked around other threads and the advice of some of the people is top notch so i would like some help if possible.

Ok here goes, I was recently broken into and my laptop was stolen It was worth about 1100 Euros 1 and a half years ago. Now I have contents insurance and the Laptop is specified on it as 1500 Euro. So i rang the insurance to claim and they advised that i need to get a laptop with the same spec and send the quote in.
Ive since realised that this laptop is no longer available to purchase through retail so they want the closest laptop with the same spec as a quote, now ive looked around and im getting a figure of around 900 euros which minus my 250 excess im screwed as to get a new one. I would like to get my money back at least but dont know what to do. The insurance company also dont know what model Compaq I have but they do know that it is no longer available.

Also my Laptop is specified with 1500 Euro next to it on my schedule as i mentioned before but im not sure what this is for would it cover me for 1500 Euro? they say it doesnt.

So Basically they want me to go dixons and get a quote with a note from the advisor that my previous laptop is no longer available and this is the closest one to it.

    Thanks in advance

    Your insurance company are right.

They're only required to compensate you for your losses.

So even if you have your laptop insured for €1500, it was only worth €900 when it was stolen, so they only have to compensate you for your loss, i.e. €900

That's the way it works. You can insure your laptop for €1500 but that doesn't mean the insurance company are required to give you €1500 if it's stolen. Same goes for everything you insure.
