My advice is to stay away fro the laser and get some one who knows what they are doing to fix it. Tried to clean mine after my PS2 wouldn't read anything. I just made it worse although it was broke beyond all repair before hand. I used the method all faqs give.

If you really must know use an alcohol based cleaner such as isopropyl.

    Sounds like a gimmick.

Any info in that book would be available online if you looked around.

Though I dont think you should clean it (if you are having problems you probably
just need to adjust the height of it) but if you heart is set then a cotton bud damp with alcohol or surgical spirits should work. But be caruful that you dont have the bud so wet it leaves some solution left on lens cause thats good night.
But seriously , if you are having problems you just need to adjust the height.

But it still loads and plays the games fine? Most playstations do that with nearly every game its nothing to worry about . Of all the playstations I know , they all do that . The only reason mine doesnt is because the laser broke and it was replaced but I dont think you want to go to them kinda lengths...

I think you can use a Q-tip and some hydrogen-peroxide. That is if it is the laser.
