Behind the times a bit ?!

Not that I have a problem as such with this - just something I sometimes wonder about.

I'm not the type of person (male by the way) who keeps right up to date with trends etc. I never wear something just because it's "in fashion", nor would I wear something if it was a pointless exercise - like clear glass eyewear for example.

However, I do find that in general the things I do like to wear would have been the height of fashion about 3 years ago. And that's always the case - I'm always about 3 years behind the times. It's not something I do consciously - as in waiting deliberatly 3 years before wearing something ! It just seems to happen this way.

And my question is - well I don't know what my question is really. Is this unusual ? Is it weird ? Or is this a normal thing ?

Not really. I always decide I really want something as soon as it goes out of fashion. This happened with cartoon T-shirts, Ugg boots and fitted denim jackets not shaped like blazers. Handy though because it means you get everything in the sales for cheap if you're lucky. I managed to get 5 pairs of ugg style boots and I only bought 1 pair during the winter. The pair bought in winter cost me £50(tan) and now the ones I've bought in the sales have cost me £3(lilac), £7.50(beige), £7.50(caramel) and £15(bright green). It's fantastic! I love not being addicted to the latest trends as it gives you more freedom and more cash.

    Hooray for being unfashionable!

no, it just sounds like you have classic taste and good style- your clothes never really go out of fashion and you know what suits you best.
gypsy just doesnt suit some people, and they don't realise it!!

You like what you like, and it doesn't matter when its in fashion. Personally I had a great time shopping when the 50's style clothing was going out of fashion. I love those skirts and dresses, and I bought tonnes for next to nothing.

Fashion is really about wearing what makes you look god.

Basically you were what you want instead of being a sheep and followign the crowd. Thats good, you make an individual statement about what you wear, read most of the guys fashion / metro threads here.
Once you are confident about what you wear and look good, whats the problem.

Well thanks all for the reassurance !

But now I've another question. I work in an office environment and it's a suit and tie job every day. My question is - can people tell a cheap suit from a not cheap one ?

And just for the record, I don't wear cheap suits ! I'm merely interested to know if I'm shelling out more than I need to if nobody can notice the difference anyway !

What the hell is this gypsey look>?

Gypsy look is girls wearing what look like sheets wrapped around them. It's just wearing the most ill fitting clothing you can find. Like all those girls wearing those huge baggy skirts? Ick.

I never go for over the top trendy clothes but instead buy a few things from each season and mix and match. Got a great pair of knee length shorts in a burnt orange colour in Miss Selfridges today. Reduced from 38 to 18, they'll look great during the day or with a pair of heels at night. I like to mix em up and just creat cool outfits in my own style

Generally, cheap suits will always look cheap. Polyester-type material will stand out, they'll wrinkle easier and will wear badly leaving shiny patches. The River Island type suits are prime examples of this.

M&S do great mens suits, at pretty good prices for the quality in question. It's well worth paying money for a suit.

fashion makes you look like a clone and its never good if you end up wearing the same thing as somebody...and they look better in it! having your own style is great and using whats in fashion to create your own look is cool too! im stuck in the eagerbeaver/wildchild era tho...i really should move on!! :D

As Yves Saint Laurent once said "fashion fades but style is eternal".
Better to wear what u know suits you as opposed to trying to be in vogue!
Once you follow the major rules u'll look good...

    1. never wear socks/tights with sandals
    2. navy does NOT go with black
    3. Wear well fitting underwear (mostly applies to girls n good bras!)
    4. Baggy clothes don't make you look thinner, they make you look shapeless!
    5. Wear closthes that actually fit as opposed to trying to convince yourself you're a size or 2 smaller.
