Sorry to hijack the thread, but on the topic of running, is it a good idea to do the running on a road surface as long as you are wearing good runners with air cushions? Will it still destroy your knee joints?

Sometimes it does and sometimes it doesn't, and it depends on your running technique as well. Running is just one option of many and can be quite time consuming. Mind you I find running a tad boring and so am likely to biased. On the other hand I love cycling, and martial arts. One excellent exercise I recomend is Hindu Squats - now I no some of you will say that's its contra indicated and can lead to Knee Shearing - to date I haven't seen a report or study to that effect although I am open to it. I have found Hindu Squats to be the single best method of achieveing top physical conditioning in the least amount of time. It lowers the resting herat rate something shocking and burns obsence amounts of fat.

    Hope this helps,

    Boru.

you are not going to get fit without doing some sort of aerobic exercise.

There are a bunch of threads about how to start running and how much to do (fitness and athletics forums). Also check out http://www.runnersworld.com and http://www.coolrunning.com

Make sure you get some good runners, most ppl recommend asics or new balance. You're talking around €100. Arnotts are supposed to have some decent staff that can advise on the correct runner type.

Its best to run on grass if at all possible - it will save alot of stress on your body plus taking some cod liver oil will help keep your joints well oiled.
