next week coldplay, oasis, anastatia play in marley park.the park bylaws state
that the park has to be open for everyone .so you walk up past the new GAA clubhouse and use the entrance next to it.you then walk down to the concert site.your on the outside of the fence around the crowd but you can see the stage and hear fine.its like being at the back of the crowd but you havn't paid.I do this every year allways works

Having worked at Marley Park concerts previously, I always found it funny that to the right of the stage (within reason) there were people walking their dogs, etc. :D

Sorry about the art work but I think you'll make it out.
If you drove past the main gates(coming from town) the club is about 200 mts up the road along side the park.
Hang a right at the lights just beside the club and you'll see the pedestrian gates.Shítty Map

    More info about the concerts
Coppers on mountain bikes patrol the park during the concerts. They also congregate at the fence to watch the bands. For the last two concerts they have given me some free cans of lager that they have taken off the young bowzies that hang around.I'm 40 and i like to think that its payback for all the flaggons taken off me by the guards when i was an underage drinker :D:D:D

I can hear those concerts from my house, just like a rummble far off. Might cycle down, and try sneak in, or mosey around the park. or turn up early that morning camp in a tree, and away u go, or a toilet.

I also live beside the park, I was up there earlier and Coldplay were doing a soundcheck, they played a few songs, we just strolled in and were right beside the stage with no tickets! i'd say there will be loads of people trying to go in free with this weather.

Now that we know how to get there and how to enjoy the concerts, does somebody have concert dates (and times) for the summer in Marley Park? ;-)

Ok here how it went last night.

Picked up a few friends and a few beers. Threw my fold up camping chairs in the car and headed up to Marley Park. Parked really close too.

Walked around the GAA club and noticed a load of girls hopping over the club house walls. A female Garda then took away all the wheelie bins they used to scale the wall. As we were disappearing with a snigger over the wall the Garda was running up to us shouting "stop, stop, I have your discriptions, I have your descriptions". I also managed to get a bad cut on my hand from the glass on the top of the wall

As we walked through the park we noticed the park gates were actually open so the wall scaleing wasnt even needed

We headed up the side of the sectioned off area and plonked our seats with a great view of the stage. After a while a couple of security guys moved us off rattling off some crap about the park being closed since six. He didnt have an answer for the fact that there were hundreds of people in the park including little old ladies and mother with babies in tow. We though it best to move though before he really started piping off (I think he had a severe dose of ' little mans syndrome')

We moved back down towards the main area where there were more people which was closer to the stage and had a good view of the big screens, again plonked our seats down and cracked open our cans. No more hassle from security and had a very entertaining view of all the local teenagers jumping the fence. There must have been at least 50 of them getting past security into the main concert area.

All in all a successful free concert (except for the cut hand). Ill be there for Oasis and hopefully the weather will be as good.

    Thanks for the excellent advice

    Quality....

is it hard to scale the fence into the gig?....

whereabouts were the gates to get into the park?...right beside the gaa club?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭Real

We scaled the wall on the right hand side of the GAA club. It's fairly easy to get over just watch out for some old chunks of glass on it in places. I did it with myself a mate and 2 ladies. No problem for us (although the Garda running after us probably put a bit more of a spring in our step :D )

The point being though we didnt need to go over the wall at all. Once we were in we noticed a large gate on the left of the GAA club house that was open.

Smarter people than us used that way in

i'd say it was funny disappearing over a wall with the guards screaming at you.....they were probably too chunky to get over it themselves...

By the way where did you park?.....could you see the stage clearly from where you were?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 90 ✭✭$lattman

Yeah we scaled that wall beside the GAA club too, some of my friends got some vicious cuts from the glass, i'd say some tetnus shots are gonna be needed today, I suppose it didn't help that we'd been in the pub most of the day.
A patrol car saw us going over the wall and they just laughed then we got in there were hundreds of free concert goers so the security just let it go. A few people did try to make a run through the barriers to the actual concert area and got chased by security, that was hilarious coz they kept taunting the guards by doing tumbles etc, great night for free!

My heart was thumping. I could see the Ban Garda running down to us as I helped the girls over the wall. She was shouting at us and I was shouting at the girls to get over quick. As I got over the wall the Ban Garda was only a foot or two from grabing me. Best fun Ive has since I was a naughty teenager :D

We could see the stage perfectly. You could walk up and down the concert barriers depending on where you wanted to see from.

If you wanted you could try sneak u could sneak under/over/through the concert fencing. Loads of kids did. I only saw one or two get cought. At one point a bunch of them unscrewed and tore open one of the fences. There was a massive rush for the gaping hole in the barrier. Id say at least fifty kids stormed the area and disappeared into the crowd inside.

Great fun to watch. Gardai didnt give a sh_t either

I was there. One thing I couldn't understand- what makes so many scumbags turn up to a Coldplay gig???

Looks like i'll have to shave my head, get a few tatoos & grow a tash before i go to Oasis so I won't get started on.

Where can such a mighty chair be purchased?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 118 ✭✭Real

I parked around the corner from Marley Park in some estate. There was a Garda stopping people from parking in there but he just seemed to ignore us. I parked in a little cul-de-sac to make sure I didnt block any residents.

I know Denissilver said there was an open gate but the gate we saw from where we walked from looked like it has security stopping people so we said we better take our chances with the wall. Should have just looked around a bit better really.

As for the chair. It can be purchased in any camping shop. I think I paid a tenner for it last year. Folds up into a small shoulder bag. Probably not the worlds most comfortable chair but when you compare it to sitting on the cold grass it certainly is 'mighty'.
