Haven't drank since my bday in Feb and I'm going out tonight. What do you guys reckon... take it easy or get queasy? I used to be the biggest piss head - I weighed 19 stone and would drink 20+ pints in a night (no bs) - now I'm a dieted down 14 stone uber-health freak. But, ya gotta let loose sometimes, so I'm gonna tonight...

Anyway, what are your thoughts on this? Should I return to being Frank the Tank or chill out with a bottle of Chianti ts ts ts ts???

you need to look at two principle parameters there...

    1. the fact that you used to be much heavier than you are now...
dont drink the way you used to, your reduced body weight wont handle it the way it did when you were so much heavier.

    2. tachyphylaxis... this is the general way that the effects a drug or alcohol seem to be less with continued use... its why some people require 10 pints to get merry (alcoholics) and others get by fine with 3. after your extended period of non-alcohol consumption, your tolerance to the effects of alcohol will be very low. i'd say 3 pints of beer if taken in an hour will leave you sitting. 4 or 5 and you could see yourself lying on the ground.

i say, go out and drink slowly. if you're out for 4 hours and have 6 pints over that period, i'd say ou'll have a good night. dont end up on the flippin ground anyway, you'll only ruin your first night in ages.

hope you have a great night.

I hadn't drank for 4 months til Feb either - had 8 pints and a few shots and was grand, but very moody!

The main reason I stopped drink was because of the depression effect from frequent drinking which I was very susceptible too (the odd night, even once a week, would be fine though - I used to go 6/7 per week!!!)

It can come on quite suddenly. I was 17 stone+ and most Saturdays would consist of 8-10 pints of Guinness or 12+ vodkas. And that's when I wasn't getting hammered. My drinking has been much less regular of date, but now I'm down to 14 stone, I'm having trouble past 5 pints. I used to be a big drink mixer but now I'm finding that one vodka thrown on top of five pints is knocking me out. And only in the last 6 weeks too. I'm hammered on far far less. If you're going to the gym, the effects are even worse.

My advice is to stick to pints (gives you more control over your drunkenness) and try take it easyish. One pint every 30-60 mins (depending on how long you'll be out for). Have a pint of water in between to slow you down if needs be.

I've been weightlifting for years, focus has changed from powerlifting to bodybuilding because of an injury, hence the lifestyle change. I actually found that more muscle increased my tolerance!

Here's a good story. Anyone ever watch World's Strongest Man? There's an Aussie called Derek Boyer, who has been a top 8 finisher, who was in a competition with me in Russia a couple of years ago. Anyway, the guys is ridiculously huge - 138kg at 6ft3 or so, and mostly muscle! Anyways, after the competition we all went to the bar, he ordered a litre of vodka, got it in a chilled glass, downed it in one and said "Let's start drinking boys". Guy was ridiculous for drinking!

Just thought I'd bring that up on the subject of drinking and gyming :)

I'll try and get hold of a disposable camera and see what happens. Normally a night ends up with me doing something bad with traffic cones.

i don't really drink at all ever, maybe once every 2 years. But last weekend it was HOT!! And i had a craving for a drink, so i got myself a bottle of bud, and i could feel the effects after HALF the bottle!!! I didn't even finish the 2nd bottle cos i don't really like the feeling of being drunk.

I reckon you should just stay off it, what was the point in quitting if you were just gonna start again?

I only drink on special occasions as my hangovers are the stuff of ledgend!!!
but no matter how long I leave it(normally 2-6months), there has never been any reduction in the amount that I normally drink when i do break out. So I would say go for it, when u absolutely, positively cant drink any more have 2 more pints and go home!!!

I didn't quit, just relaxed it for my dieting! Won't be able to drink from July onwards because of my schedule... had a can alrady to warm up... once it hits your lips, it feels so good!

That sounds dodgy already. I'd go with the drinking slowly idea, you don't know how fast it might hit you
