You think us Cavan men are mean... You should meet someone from Yorkshire!

    I don't see the problem

She cost him £4, and she should pay him. Or is she exempt under some new law, because he probably has more money than her.

I would be looking for an apology from her for defaming his character.

I think the point is that she's his personal assistant and he either didn't know or didn't care that her mother had just died and she had other things to worry about, i.e. it's his complete insensitivity rather than his stinginess which shocks people.
She didn't defame his charater either, she just let it speak for itself, though forwarding what are probably confidential mails about the place is not really on.

ya that and the fact that he's making mega-bucks in his job, he's really high up where as she is just a lowly-paid secretary

FFS, I wouldn't ask someone I worked with for €4 euros if they owed it to me. I'd let them pay me back, if they thought of it, if not, fair enough who cares.

Fact is she did it by accident, and rather than do what most people would, let alone for a co-worker, he had the nerve to ask for €4!!

Maybe he sent the email as a joke..

its $4, find a river, build a bridge, get the fcuk over it.
he make his millions by giving his co-workers $4 for nowt!

It doesn't say she is his secretary, just A secretary in the firm. He may or may not have known about her mother's passing but I read it that that happened after he sent his mail.

Regardless of whether or not she she pay it she was way out of line forwarding the email on and I'd be surprised if she doesn't face disciplinary action.

That said, it's major egg on his face. :D

That's going to be an expensive ketchup stain for him then. Tosser.

Judging by his e-mail I'd guess that she spilled ketchup on his trousers, apologised and offered to pay for the cleaning(as you would). Then she finds out her mother died and throws a hissy-fit at his insensitivity(unless he hadn't heard about it, in which case he can't be blamed for that).

Though, he's loaded and it shouldn't have ever crossed his mind to let anyone else pay for his damn dry cleaning.

"unbeknown to Mr Phillips, his secretary was at her mother's funeral."

I hope she is happy now.
I think she is the miserable one. She cost him £4, end of story. But being to stingy to PAY HER DEBT, the guy has been named all over the media, and has resigned a £150K per annum job!!

How did she manage to spill ketchup on his trousers?

Ah yeah, I'd say he'll have to work in MacDonald's now

Spilling ketchup on some fella's trousers accidently is not "a debt"
I write off more than 4 quid everytime I hang my pants over the banisters.
