As they still have the other branches (Blanchardstown, Tallaght etc)
I assume it's the stuff they can't sell?

I'm gonna head in after work for a look.

One could potentially pick up an xbox for about 75 quid.
Not too shabby....doubt if there are any left!

Any word on this , im guessing most of the stuff has been moved to other branches and only the junk is at 50% off.

What the fcuk has this to do with Virgin in Henry Street 50% off thread?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

    Getting back to the topic
Went in at 5.30, place was jammed.
No consoles, very very few games, mostly DVD's and CD'S.
There must have been 50 people in the queue when I was leaving.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 17,643 Mod ✭✭✭✭Graham

I'd have to second eth0_'s view goldenbrown, you're post contributed absolutely nothing other than a cheap attack on another member.

Serbian, you may find that editing your profile will help prevent similarly worded responses.

*Mods, I know this is off topic, please feel free to delete*

Yeah, the place was bananas at that time. I wanted to buy 2 DVDs (I think they were 7.99 each) but the queue put me off. So I walked out empty handed.

I was walking by it at 9.40 this morning and dragged my friend in- it wasn't busy and there were 2 people in the queue. Got Donnie Darko for 1.99, The Day After Tomorrow for 7.50 and Smashing Pumpkins Greatest Hits video for 9 so yep everything is half price, even the stuff on special offer- knock 50% off!!!!

Downstairs was closed, so no consoles and very few games and dvd box sets.

However I still got some nice items:
    Sennheiser PX100 headphones for €28 :)
    Brothers in Arms
Call of Duty (The expansion pack)
Two DVD's (Jack Dee and Lee Evans) and the Gladiator soundtrack for my Dad (fathers day).
    Monthy Python
    iRobot

My buddy got the Lord of The Rings soundtrack, Half Life 2 and Pariah.

The place was packed, I was lining up for at least 30 minutes and the heat in there was incredible, I'm surprised nobody fainted in there. There was a blast of heat as you approached the door from the outside!!!!

I felt sorry for the staff, there were only two behind the counter and they were working very hard in incredible heat at a job, which is gone when the store closes :( and yet they were still very friendly and chatty, that's classy :)

Poor staff - I'd say that was horrible. Im fairly pissed I missed this, sounds like there were bargains a plenty to be had. If I lived closer to town I would have gone in in a flash. Would it be worth going in tomorrow maybe? Oh yea, forgot I'm broke...

    How come it's closing down?

Think they have sold the lease on the shop.

    At their prices

I guess it's because the rent is so high.

Does anyone if the sale is still on?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 15 willpak

Just spoke to someone at Virgin, the sale officially runs till July 9th, but they expect it end before that.

Given that there were lots of empty shelves yesterday, I'd say it won't last very long at all.

I suppose Virgin closing is just a symptom of them not being able to compete with Play, CD-WOW, Amazon, etc.

It is funny though, it seems the Game stores seem to be triving and incresing even in the face of com, petition from these same sites. I wonder are smaller music stores like Golden Discs the future of music retailers.

Virgin have decided to pull out of Dublin city centre, and have instead focused on having a location in nearly all the M50 ring shopping centres. They'll soon be opening in Dundrum afaik.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 422 ✭✭PADDYPOKER

They'll do as well there as they did in Henry Street unless they lower their prices. :o

Well i went into virgin yesterday and there where a load of bargains. BUT before u walk into the shop take off as many items of clothing as possible, a swim suit would b ideal :p , it is like 35degree's in the bloody shop, and the lines arent short either.
    :( Downstairs was blocked off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,632 ✭✭✭✭okidoki987

cause that's where all the P/S and Xbox consoles and games were and I guess Sony and Microsoft wouldn't allow them to sell at 50% off.

serbian you seem pretty proud there of your cleansed ethnicity,

Keep this rubbish off the shop forums or you'll be banned permanently. I would also recommend you stay off the pink tablets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,119 ✭✭✭✭event

ok, so what all is left?

i wont get in until friday, is there any point?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 743 ✭✭✭father_ted9t9

Not really! Was in there yesterday and there very little left all together, and what is left is mostly rubbish! Still though what is rubbish to me may be great to you, so if your passing by a look may not be a bad thing!
