All's quiet on the Western Front - Roscommon vs Mayo...

Well it looks like most people are predicting a cake walk for Mayo in this Connacht Semi Final.

Roscommon have a habit of coming from nowhere to produce big performances when nobody expects it. However, even when that happened the team was usually coming off the back of a half decent league run with the quality players on the team coming into form.

this year it is quite the opposite. Frankie Dolan barely back playing club football. Francie Grehan only able to come on for last 10 minutes for his club 2 weeks ago. David Casey and Seamus O'Neill just back from injury. Despite all my optimism leading up to Roscommon games, I can only see one result in this match -

    A Mayo win

There has been a lot of problems in the Roscommon camp over the past couple of years. They came close to beating Kerry in 2003 in the quarter final, but have not really figured since then. You have to fancy Mayo.

I'm not so sure. Roscommon will be well up for this. They produced a shock result against All Ireland Championship favourites London :D

Joking aside, with their poor display in Ruislip a couple of weeks ago, everyone feels that it's a Sunday afternoon stroll for Mayo. Roscommon will be very much up for the game despite lack of form and absences through injury. This is a potential banana skin for Mayo me thinks. It would be very easy for the green and red to walk complacently into the Hyde on Sunday and come up against a shock.

All told, I feel that Mayo should win, but I'd be treading with caution!!!

It's in Roscommon @ 2.10pm. It was supposed to be later I think but RTE have changed their schedules so they're showing it live.

Hyde Park is in roscommon. I think Mayo will walk this game. Roscommon are at a very low ebb at the minute.

The score line might show that but Kerry were never in trouble that day, Ros scored a few goals when kerry went to sleep but Frankie Dolan was way off form with his kicking.

as for Sunday, like it was mentioned above, Mayo with caution.

    ROSCOMMON (SF v Mayo) : S Curran, B McNeela, J White, S McDermott, M Ryan, D Casy, J Rogers, S O'Neill, B Higgins, K Mannion, F Grehan, E Kenny, G Cox, S Lohan, G Heneghan

with Frankie Dolan, Michael Finneran, Nigel Dineen to come off the bench its not a bad team

    Mayo team:

    David Clarke
Keith Higgins David Heaney Gary Ruane
Conor Moran James Nallen Gary Mullins
    Ronan McGarrity Shane Fitzmaurice
Andy Moran Ciaran McDonald Alan Dillon
Conor Mortimer Billy Joe Padden Stephen Carolan

a lot of changes from thir league games. It appears Maughan is going to use this game to blood in a few players to new positions - is that wise??

Can't really say that I know much about either team but I can't see Roscommon doing well after the year they've had so far. Losing to Monaghan and almost losing to London in the Championship is very very poor indeed. Mayo win for me...

Were making hard work of it, 5 points up now with just under 10 mins left, what a point from Ciaran Mc just there though, right out on the sideline!
    Now 6 up

Roscommon were woeful. I fancy Galway to have the beating of Mayo in the final.

I'd fancy Mayo for the Connacht Final. They have bigger things on their mind. It won't be easy for them though. There are a lot of good teams in there.

Tbh, I think Mayo will fall at the first serious hurdle they meet. They did not impress yesterday against a bad team, and I think they have not and will not recover from the drubbing they took in last years final.

Pity the first Croke Park game wasn't on telly instead of this game. Wasn't impressed tbh.

How embarrassing - I had my stag party over the weekend which ended in the GAA mecca that is Mick Byrnes pub in Castlebar and who came in late yesterday evening only Kieran McDonald with his girlfriend and as you do when your off your face, armed with dutch courage, I decided to chat to him. Fcuk, I don't know the guy and have no idea what I said to him :o:o I know I didn't insult him anyway but I'm sure he just wanted a quiet pint. I'm fcukin mortified.

They should of showed Cavan vs Tyrone. Very close, tightly contested game.

I disagree (but I am biased). There were only a few players (I believe 8) that played in last years final starting yesterday. They hadn't played since the league Semis and did look a bit sluggish. In fairness they were brutal for the first half hour, but after that they got into their stride.
I would be confident of a semi final place this year, hopefully the final. I recall last year people writing off Mayo after the games against Galway and Roscommon, not giving them a chance against Tyrone either.

Mayo got a soft run to the final last year and got duly annilated when they had to step up in class.

I dont think this team is good enough either. I said so after last years connaught final and was left with egg on my face.

If mayo get another soft run it might get them to a semi final/final.

I dont think they will beat armagh or kerry though. Probably not: Donegal, Laois (fully fit) either

But still thats still a team in the top5 in the country which is not bad
