Cheapest place to buy a .ie?

Can anybody suggest a cheap place to buy a .ie? The cheapest i've been quoted for one is 120 euro, and that seems pretty expensive compared to a .com, which i can get for 50. I only need the domain name, as i've already got hosting.

Also, is it safe to buy from those sites which hold domain names which they think will be popular? I can't think of the name of them, but you should know what i mean. Anybody have any experiences with doing this?

I believe the term you're looking for is: domain hijackers or chancers

Whoever quoted you those prices is having a laugh.

    www.register365.ie

A .com is €8.95 (ex VAT)
A .ie is €69.95 (ex VAT)

As far as I recall the €120 for two years is that rate set by the group who administers the .ie domain (can't think of their name). That's also the only rate they offer which is why most registrars will charge that way, some places will offer €60 a year but they're taking the risk that you won't want it the year after and they'll lose €60.

Not sure where you pick this idea up from but most hosters now charge around 50 Euros per year for a .ie domain. They are selling at or near to the trade price.

Blacknight were the cheapest reseller of .ie last time I checked. There was one other dodgy (just dodgy sounding, very little info on them, and an additional accounting headache) off-shore company that were a couple of quid cheaper. Of the reputable resellers, Blacknight was definately the cheapest back then.

Watch out for the majority of resellers who quote a low price, but turn around and say it is only applicable if you get hosting as well.

The IEDR retail price is €99 ex-vat (http://www.iedr.ie/RegFees.php) per annum

I don't know where you got the idea about the 2 year registration fee, unless you are confusing .ie with .co.uk which is run by nominet and has a 2 year minimum registration period.
