When you buy electronics, make sure:
-They support 230V, or you won't be having it plugged in constantly. Transformers are inefficient
-They are PAL, or support both. A neighbour came home with an NTSC camcorder recently.

Here is a must. You'll pick up a few bargins there. 5th Avenue is usually a bit of a rip off.

I found Jersey Gardens much better and cheaper than Woodbury Common. There is no tax here (don't know if this is just state tax or if it includes federal tax).

There is no Sony outlet in Jersey gardens but there is in Woodbury.

Also Century 21 has brilliant value (beside World Trade Centre).

Completely agree with Dingatron - 5th Ave is a rip off.

Also stores like Macys announce sudden sales on the day between certain hours. Sometimes these can be worth the visit. They are announced on the TV in the morning.

You can order now and have it delivered to your hotel.

century 21 is amazing, I got a huge suitcase for €50, then filled it up in the shop. they sell top brand suits for nothings, shirts etc. Got a diesel jacket with down lining for €25

For clothes i would say Filenes Basement: http://www.filenesbasement.com/master.html
I went to the one in Chicago and it was excellent. Its like TK MAXX only better.. speaking of which you can also try TJ MAXX (us version).

by the way i got a 3 piece luggage set there for something like $35 and filled it all up :D

TJ maxx is cheap but a horrible place to shop, not as bad as the dublin one though. At least the jeans are on racks according to size, rather than jumbled up. I got dkny, ralph lauren, hilfiger, and ben sherman jeans, all were under €35 and none were seconds

Was never in TJ maxx myself but Filenes is excellent. The racks are usualyl by brand name so go to DKNY rack, pick a shirt for €30 or whatever.. I got some nice Ecco shoes for $35 or so... cant complain about that when compared to here :D

If you're going to be shopping in Macy's don't forget to pick up the international shoppers discount card in the Visitors Centre (on the mezzanine). It gives you 11% off the total (incl tax) cost of your purchase which wipes out the tax and then gives you a slight discount. The state tax in NY is 8.25% which really adds a lot onto your total when you get to the register.

Woodbury Commons is great - if you do go make sure and pick up the book of coupons at the information desk as some are fantastic. The Tommy and Polo outlets are great value and the coupons give you an extra 10/15% off your total. Pacsun is worth a look as are the Nike/ Puma outlets etc. I found the high-end outlets to be absolutely rubbish, IMO.

If you are thinking of buying designer gear, be sure to price it up before you go. As a general rule of thumb, European designers like Gucci, Prada, Chanel etc are MORE expensive in the States, even when you take the exchange rate into consideration. U.S. designers are massively cheaper. I got RL jumpers which go for about €120 here for $50+tax in the outlets and in Filene's Basement.

check out American Eagle while you're there - it's like Abercrombie but every single person in Ireland isn't wearing it!
