XBox Problem!

Hello, I recently got interested in the XBox-Linux.Org Project, so I decided to soft-mod. I bought all the stuff (Game {mech assult origional}, usb stick, Xebian Images, Usb/Xbox Adaptor), and was waiting for it to come. So I got bored, and decided I would take it apart. I took off the cover, and disconnected the HDD, et cetra, and then put it back together. But, again out of pure boredom, I did it again. This time, when it starts, it errors something about needing service, and to call customor support, and it has error code 7. I have google'd and read almost every related page. I would guess I shorted out the HDD, with static electricity. So, I have another Hark Disk (not sure if it works), but I can't afford the mod chip. If anyone could help out, or lend me one, I'd GREATLY appreciate it (and pay back the price of it double in about a week and a half).

    Thanks,
    pacifico

7 is a knackered hdd - did you take a copy of the eeprom/the backup evox makes?

if so i can help you - if not you'll have to wait the week and a half and get yourself a chip

I wouldn't be too keen on softmoddin...drop in a chip. Not like a warranty is going to backed up anyway...BREAK it

eh - no hard drive - no soft mod

yep, without a backup of the eeprom you cant fix it without a chip if the HD is dead.

You could try unplugging the HD and DVD drive overnight and then try them the next day...it probably wont work though but its worth a try and wont cost you anything.

Also, It may be that you screwed up the DVD drive and therefore the HD cant be read either (hence error 7). If you can, borrow an xbox DVD drive from someone else and pop it in to see. If it's the DVD drive then you can pick one up second hand (any xbox drive will do)

Otherwise maybe you can convince someone to let you borrow a solderless chip just so you can put in a new HD, backup the eeprom and then generate a new locking code for the new HD. Then you can softmod the new HD, lock it and remove the solderless chip.

just take it apart again. it should work when u put it back together again, and if it doesnt then u know for a fact that ur XBOX HDD is fuxored.

Wrap the HD in Cling film and ensure that it is air/leak tight. Or best to take it to a butcher and have it vac packed. Stick it in the freezer for a couple of days and then have everything ready and take the HD out of the freezer. Wired it in and you might be able to softmod if you quick enough. Once softmod is complete you can stick in any old HD.

Freezing contracts everything and it might be enough to ensure enough clearence for the HD heads to enable the disks to spin.

I stick with a modchip it is much easier. On Xbox-Scene they have tutorials on making em. Again its better to buy em as its too messy if you don't have the right equipment.

    Well Best of Luck..

i like mod-chips too, and have used them amny times, but for someone who is new, and hasnt got the money, or just doesnt wanna fux his xbox's warrenty, softmodding is the answer, easy, free, and you can do all the things modchip can.

Before you go putting your hd in the freezer(!), check that you havent connected the IDE cable the wrong way round.

Its most likely something simple that went wrong when you reassembled it.
