My 4x DVDRW only burns 8x discs @ 2x

Been using my 4x NEC DVD+/-RW for a few years now, and it works great. But I just bought some 8x discs (Rídisc), and my burner will only burn them at 2x. What's up with that? It's a 4x burner, and always burnt at 4x with 4x discs.

Also - I have an 8x Sony Burner in the office, and it will only burn at 4x - on the same 8x discs!

    Try a firmware upgrade.

Discs are crap burner trying to compensate by burning them slower.

Altho it says 8x on them burning at that will yield many failures. There are ways to burn at 8 by changing the defaults but to get a decent disc at the end leave as is.

Also get a firmware update incase its that.

I doubt it. I'd say the burner has no burn strategy for those discs, what with the discs being 8x, and not being around when the burners firmware was originally created. I'd put good odds on a firmware upgrade fixing everything.

is was probably to do with +r and -r. Older drives burnt the different specs at different speeds. Looks like the new firmware sorted that out.
