I lived in The Hague / Den Haag / La Haya for a year.

1995 to 1996 so my info may be a little dated.

But I did return in 2000 and 2004 again.

Nightlife was never great. The city is the administrative capital of the country, and therefore always remained a rather serious option when compared with the lively Amsterdam.

Den Haag (as the Dutch call it, or they also know it as s'Gravenhage) is a clean and safe spot.

English is like a first language, you'll never experience any difficulty with this.

It's a good shopping city - it's very easy to get between the major cities as train transport is worldclass, trams will be your transport of choice around the city - Schreveningen the beach village is very close and a nice option.

Price - well considering you're likely Irish, the Hague will likely be on a par or cheaper than what you're used to.

I revert to nightlife though: not a lot of fun. You'll be going to Amsterdam for your gigs etc.
