Conflicting wireless systems

Dont ask me why it was done exactly, but the two guitarists in my band decided to get wireless systems, the first bought his a few weeks ago and the second got the exact same model this week, both from thomann. Since they are identical, they must use the same frequency because they interfere with one another. And there seems to be no option on them to switch frequencies.

Probably no solution to this but to buy a different one, but is there any way of fixing this problem?

u could be right... but i think if u seperate the wireless systems and don't let either of the guitarists getin the way of each others wireless signal ,and maybe prevent any of their cables from touching it should be ok...if not just ask thomann for a swap or maybe even just get another reciever and try running the 2 guitars off one unit

Well when you set the two up, there a massive swooshing sound coming from the amp(s). Ill see what happens if you put the two very far apart later on.

just read the akg wireless faq there... they reckon that only 1 guitar wireless unit can be used at a time on any single frequency...

If i were you i'd flog that stuff on ebay - it's not really necessary unless you guys play on vast stages. But if you're all crouched in a small practice space, what's the point of having wireless?

they are great tho i hate wires hanging out of me (except for the 6 inch one that i wa born wit :p)...the only thing is when your batteries start to go they system develops some gain and thats not good while playing a nice clean tune...the best bet i found was to get one of the green battery chargers fromargos and 2 9v batteries...each battery lasts about 10 hours...savage value

Well the two guys want to save on buying new cables that get stood on, and they believe itll help the signal. Besides, it generally makes mobility easier, and for a few gigs, the people setting up the sound have screwed us over, so we can do our own soundchecks away from the stage!

yeah sound checks are great with the wireless...sit down the back havin a pint playing a tune ...just can't beat it...the lads should lookinto changing the freq tho it'd save a lot of hassle...might be an internal switch or somethin

just spoke to one of the techs in work whose happens to be a 2 way radio expert... the story is that they are set on a fixed frequency... u can buy 8 different frequency models of that particular wireless system...they are all colour coded...so say a green system won't work with another green system nearby...sounds like a really poxy cowinkidink...maybe ask thomann about this...the address is info@thomann.de

also check if they are UHF or VHF . VHF will cause more problems than UHF

Wireless systems are definately handy if you're playing big stages and even just for the "Would ya look at da blue LED on tha' thing" effect. Be wary of using them with a bass guitar though unless it fits into your sound - Wireless needs to compress the audio signal which means you lose some high and low frequency, even with the more expensive models which expand the frequency bandwidth when it pushes out the audio again at the other end. This can be okay if you're not too fussed about TONE but if you're using a good bass through a good head/amp/combo you might notice a drop in quality. Fine for guitars though....Guitarists don't really know much about tone anyway! :p

Just out of interest - Which model pack/transmitter are your ear bleeders using anyway?

    Gil
