    How much funding you got?
    Anything she's specifically into?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 31,967 ✭✭✭✭Sarky

She's your girlfriend. If anyone knows what she likes, it should be you. I won't recommend any gifts, but I will recommend you take a good look at her interests. 20 quid on a new writing pen can be more touching than a 500 euro holiday. If you can find her something that really means a lot to her, it won't matter if you spend your life savings or if you fished it out of the Liffy and washed it off.

    It's really down to you.

Sarky - I know youre right but i dont want to just buy another ****, generic present.

Kittenkiller - She is into really girly stuff, clothes, makeup etc. Thats why im struggling so much

Try looking about getting something that relates to her interests as Sarky says. One of my favorite all time presents was a book - the inscription read "To ----, one of my favorite books by one of your favorite authors..." - priceless :)

    lol, that is quite cool.

hows about one of those day trips to a spa or something like that. i would have to get it for 2 tho so she could go with her sister or something....how does that sound?

That's why I said take a GOOD look. You must know something besides the generic "girly" stuff she's interested in. What music does she like? Find a rare album. What books does she read? Pick up something by her favourite author she hasn't gotten yet. And so on. It's not that hard if you put that extra effort in. :)

Take a visit to Claire's Accessories & get loadsa little trinketty stuff.

Ask her mother/sister/best friend what her favourite brand of make up is & get a voucher (€30 should be plenty) for it.

& then tell her to get all dressed up & take her out to dinner (or if funds are short, over to yours for a romantic meal with candles n stuff) & make sure that you're all dressed up too. Tis nice to see that the guy's made an effort as well.

Or you could think about a voucher/appointment to be pampered in a *nice* beauty salon for a back massage, pamper day or something (be careful that she doesn't take offense {so no waxing} or take it as some sort of hint that she doesn't take care of herself).

Be sure to wrap everything & get a lovely big girly card!
& if you wanted some flowers.

& now you can spend the whole summer working to be able to afford her christmas pressie!!!

Have a good root through her personal items to get an idea of her taste then buy something similar.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,010 ✭✭✭besty

haha. well im toying with some of those ideas. she is repeating her leaving so im thinking of one of those day trip things to powerscourt spa for when she is finished and dinner maybe on sunday. thing is im broke, but ill find the mula somewhere. thanks for the help guys. i feel kinna pathetic, but if you think of anything else in the next, ummm, day, feel free to post it up.

    thanks again for the help!

If money is a problem, give her the massage yourself & don't even think of getting yourself into financial difficulty to pay for her mate to get pampered!

She won't be expecting anything too extravagent if she knows that you're broke.

Claire's has some cheap-ish stuff & is very girly & fluffy.

Pamper her yourself, the thought will be so much nicer.

Don't bankrupt yourself or you won't be able to do anything together for the rest of the summer.

theres a place called blue eriu or something like that near lemon crepe place, not sure of the name of the street but anywho, they do realy nice treatments.. one is a back massage and a huge bunch of roses after. thats cool cause u get to choose the treatment and i'm sure the ppl there would help u choose the right one for her!

...and don't forget to check out her secret diaries and 'back-massagers' while you're in there.

Someone gave me the following piece of advice and it's never failed me so far in life - "Never buy a woman clothes of any sort as a gift".

Failing that, just ask yourself, what do Irish women like? Drink. Nothing says 'I Love You' quite like a 700ml bottle of Bicardi.

Avoid Claire's - the stuff there is tacky and intended for younger teenagers.

Get her a nice looking sex-toy for when you're not around!

The Bear Factory, girly girls love the teddies. Not too expensive, and they are nice, they get birth certs/clothes/passports etc. If she likes teddies..

*note* this should probably be AS WELL AS whats said above...it'll be around €25-30 for a nice one, AFAIK.

    Hey Besty,

I'd cuncur with avoiding giving the lady a Claires's Acccessories voucher.

If she likes accessories, then you can't go wrong with a voucher, say E40-50 to get a nice bag for eg, (and in winter they have lovely scarf and gloves).
--"Accessorize", as you're walking towards Stephen's
Green, down Grafton St on left hand side. Also there's one in the Stephen's Green Centre, ground floor. And *as far as I know* there's one somewhere in Jervis St/Henry St...?

If you're not gonna see her until the afternoon/evening of her birthday, that'd be a great idea if you could get the bear to have the same 'birthday' as her.

If you do get her a present she can't keep like a trip to the spa, then get her something that will remind her of the time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,482 ✭✭✭RE*AC*TOR

First edition of her favourite book / perhpas signed (this will take time to find).
A weekend away (Prague, Amsterdam, Barcelona etc).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,787 ✭✭✭prospect

    Hey,

If money is tight, don't get into difficulty, she won't want/expect that.
Instead of getting her and a fried a full day in Powerscourt (approx €500!), go to a local beauty clinic, and get her a full body hot stone massage, around €75 and takes an hour. Then bring her for a nice meal (nice doesn't mean expensive), and get her a little keepsake, a teddy, or a framed picture of the two of you, you get the idea.

Right guy, i have racked my poor little brain, googled, googled for images and searched on wikipedia.
    What is 'brown wings'?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,010 ✭✭✭besty

put it this way. if you were to have normal sex, you could call them pink wings.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,954 ✭✭✭✭Larianne

get a star named after her.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,016 ✭✭✭✭vibe666

traditionally, when a pilot becomes qualified to fly, they 'get their wings' referring to the little silver or gold badge they get in the shape of a pair of wings.

it's become somewhat common practice recently to refer to anyone who's been initiated into a club or group of some sort of other that they've got their wings.

i'm sure you can work the rest out from besty's post.

How about a nice J-Cloth? They come in pink (for girls) and they're practical too.

True, I was referring to the suggestion though, not the description.

So, how did ya get on with the birthday pressie?
