isnt there anyway it can upgraded from 4.5km to something better like 7.0km?

Well considering that people who are only 3km from the exchange
(they are too far away) cannot get broadband, I can't see much hope for
those who are a mere 4.5km from the exchange nevermind 7km.

The "distance from the exchange" measurement is the downstream side of the
    equation.
You could be 2km from the exchange and the cooper to your house is so crap
that it measures (if that is the right word, guesstimate would be better) 10km.

This is where the fuzziness creeps in and allows at least 100 excuses/minute to automagically popup.

I was told by Eircom in a letter a few weeks ago that there were no immediate plans to extend the line distance beyond 4.5 kms. Asking for 7 kms would be too much for Eircom.
