Smiley O'Neals - tacky, crappy, but we had a ball. Your stereotypical attempt at a British style pub with an Irish name. Staff were brilliant crack, and of course one of them had been to college in Dublin. Spent the whole night sitting at the bar talking about almost every conceivable subject with them. And we were the last to leave. Fond memories....

There are a bunch of recommendations made previously on this thread.

Try some of the other clubs/pubs on Granville Street. This is the same street as Doolins - head north a few blocks. The Yaletown Brewery (in Yaletown, oddly enough!) has a nice pub section.

The Frog and Firkin on W. Broadway is showing the Lions games from NZ over the next few weeks, if you are interested. None of them will be live though, as far as I know.

Main St./Commercial Drive have lots of funky places to eat/drink.

If you feel like slumming it I can recommend the downtown eastside - anywhere around Hastings and Main. Lots of nasty dives. (Seriously, if you do head down there be careful...)

Yeah the pubs on Granville St on cool, check out the Stone Temple. Also check out some of the bars in Kitsalano around the Braodway area
