Strange abbreviations in ntl: digital EPG

Has anyone else noticed the strange abbreviations appearing in []'s at the end of the program descriptions in the EPG recently? I've only noticed two, namely and [AD,S]. I'm kind of guessing that means stereo (isn't practically everything in stereo these days?), but [AD] eludes me. It only seems to appear on programs that are series, like soaps.

    Any ideas?

I was thinking that meant subtitled?

Ah, yes, I hadn't thought of that one ... you're probably right! Still stumped by AD though unless it's something to do with the thing they've been advertising on BBC recently wher they give a kind of running commentary on top of the normal soundtrack so that blind people can follow TV programs too? Audio Description maybe?

I don't think this is ntl, I think its whoever ntl sources the programme listings data from, as these abbreviations have also begun to pop up in many programme descriptions on the sky digital EPG system also.

AD = Audio Description (as far as I know anyway)
S = Subtitles, or possibly "Signing"

Not too sure, sky don't seem to know the answer either when I rang them up!

Indeed, they should be Sutitles and Audio Desscription. Sky have recently started making noises about them providing Audio Description on certain programmes. I've noticed them being mentioned in DigiGuide recently too.

is subtitles, funny seeing on a UK Gold programme as subtitles are only available digitally on BBC1/2, UTV, Channel 4, and through teletext on the Irish channels.

I've also seen [SL] for sign language, wonder if we'll get [w] for widescreen next!
