    hi

I'm just finishing college in the next week or so.

I'm thinking of getting a job delivering pizzas / chinese takeaways.

I see a few signs up in the local takeaways looking for drivers.

just wondering is or has anyone here done this?

what is it like, what is the pay / tips like?

    Anyone have any advice??

    Cheers
    JK

I suspect most don't, but you need to get the correct insurance policy for it. Class 1 doesn't cover use of the vehicle for reward.

It's an absolute disaster of a job, tiring & there are easier ways of makin money. Get a job in a shop or something.

I've met people who like it and find it's a good way to make cash.

If you think you'll be happy doing it then go for it and give it a try mate.

And seamus, I could be wrong here, but I don't think it counts as "driving for a reward". I'm not 100% sure on that one though.

This is what i had initially planned, but i've holidays booked in a months time and i saw this more as a stop gap than anything else

No, it definitely does. There'd also be a section about carraige of goods. Legally, class 1 insurance does not cover you to carry goods for business purposes. Which essentially is what delivering food is.

Essentially, if you're getting paid to drive (like a Taxi driver), then you're driving for reward. Perhaps there's a loophole that says that you're not getting paid to drive, you're getting paid to deliver, but either way you're still carrying goods in your vehicle.

    Hmm you could be right.

I've always heard it phrased as it's the delivery that is paid for, the means and method are upto the individual. ie exactly the same as someone using a private car to travel as a salesman where there is some "saleable" product in the car with him.

    *shrugs*

That could be a violation of insurance too now that I think about it. Where's a lawyer when you need one... :p

Just don't tell anyone you were delivering food when you crash. Just say you were coming home from picking up a pizza...

    Who's to know??

    great minds think alike!

however "when you crash" is a bit of an assumption.
I would prefer to think "IF I crashed"

What if you're carrying a load of pizzas, all marked with different addresses? Or your back seat is full of bags of Chinese food, again all marked with different addresses?

    You'd be driving uninsured.

also, if your driving in the opposite direction to where your gaff is, that might be a give away aswell.

Oh yeah I run into the back of someone and the first thing they ask is "what’s with chicken balls" !!

Sure it is, if my car is facing the opposite direction of my house I must be up to no good. Did you even read what you posted!

My original question was asking had anyone worked delivering takeaways, and what was it like?

I didn't ask the legalities of delivering crispy won ton or pepperoni pizza, one quick check with the quinn direct website shows that there is absolutely no additional cost to include the "carriage of goods" in my policy. No need to alert the Garda's Emergency Response Unit that I might possibly be considering not informing my insurance company that the 12" in the back of my car is not for my sole enjoyment.

Sorry to rant, I’m sure you meant well ;)
But you sounded very preachy. Making a huge deal out of nothing.
