Looking to use CuteFTP 7.0 to get a file from a fellow border and i cant seem to connect to the server. Its a problem at my end we have established.

ISP : ESAT BT Broadband using a ZyXel Pestige 600Series ,have AVG and Sygate as well. Checked the firewall and not blocking anything to my knowledge.Do i need to un/tick anything in Network settings.

I keep getting an error 10054 which means that 10054-Connection reset by peer. The connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

But everything is working ok at the server end?
Complete novice at FTP so if im making some silly mistake please let me know. Thanks in advance

    Nukem

Its a problem at my end we have established.

How did you work that out?
The connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

Makes it sound like its a problem with your friends setup. What ftp server are they running?

try and access the FTP via Firefox/IE by typing in the address in the address bar. If they don't connect, then its probably HIS fault.

I use GuildFTPd. Try and connect to my server (theres nothing on it except FFDShow at the moment :p). clicky linky. If you can connect to that, then its definately his fault.

Theres generally two different modes of connecting to an FTP... active and passive.

If you're using passive (passv) try active, and vice versa.

Try command line ftp. See how far you get.

    In a command prompt enter:
    ftp <hostname>

Are you on a different ISP? Subnet? Network? Anything like that? PDan: You may have some kind of restriction in place.

Also try filezilla, it may give you more detailed information than either cute or command line.

    filezilla.sourceforge.net

I was having the same issue connecting to an ftp server sitting behind a firewall configured for port forwarding and it would only allow passive ftp so it might be worthwhile trying passive mode as mentioned above

I've seen similar errors trying to make an anonymous login to a server where the anonymous user didn't have rights to the folders on the server. Is CuteFTP trying to make an anoymous connection or are you supplying a username/password ? If you're using a username and password is it one that other users can use ok ?
