I am going to Vegas to record the world series of poker and i wanted to know if you guys have any recommendations for editing software. I dont need anything fancy, mostly editing out crap on either end of an interview, putting some voices or music over it and reducing it in size (physically and digitally).

Preferably it would be free too!

    Thanks,
    DeV.

    Easy peasy japanese

    www.avid.com.

Avid is the industry standard tool, and they have a freeware, without bells and whistles version of the software to download.

    http://www.avid.com/freedv/index.asp

It'll allow you to add music top n tail interviews, basic audio editing, transition effects.

    It's your only man.

PS just finished "the biggest game in town" Alvarez, fantastic! you'll have a blast.

But, if I can give you one piece of advice, Vegas Casinos are large loud places, and your audio will suffer, if you haven't already go to electric goods store on georges st, (down from yamamori) and pick up either a lapel mike, or a good directional mike (or both if you have the cash, about 150€ a piece) bring your camera and they should plug into the mike jack, giving you the internal camera mike on one channel and the external mike on the other.

Just a friendly piece of advice, it'd be a shame to come back and not be able to hear any of it.

I'm with john on this one - movie maker is totally crap - nearly drove me mad editting a 35 minute piece. Download the Free demo version of Adobe Premier Eements. It's easy enough to learn and has publishing options for web content etc... . any piece over 4 mins on movie maker tends to cause your application to hang. The only good thing about movie maker is it's Title generation options
    cheers,

Just to let people know that the Avid link above only works for Windows XP and MAC, not for earlier versions of XP

I can definitely recommend ULead Video studio.. very easy to use and has so many more features than something like Windows movie maker... depends on your budget though.

Google the reviews. I had great fun editing a short home movie.

The best software by far is vegas by sony it is brilliant. Its really easy to learn it just makes sense. Unlike premier which I think can be a real headache. You can do so much with the video as well with little or no hassle.
I would strongly advise you give the free down load a quick run for its money.
If your not used to working on Avid or final cut pro I would highly recomend this as a hassle free package that runs funtionally on even the worst of pcs.

*Edit* Thanks for your contribution, but no free advertising.
