I just can't view some sites on my laptop, for example: www.hotornot.com and geocities sites.
I just get "The connection was refused when attempting to contact...." If I try to ping it I get "Destination host unreachable". It works fine on my other computer so there must be something on my laptop that is blocking certain sites but I have no idea what it could be? The first thing I thought of checking was the hosts file but thats empty. Any ideas?

Check the DNS settings to see if they match your computer.

go to your browser, and type in http://66.151.156.188

Thats the IP for hotornot. If you can't connect to that, there is filtering of some sort taking place on your connection blocking you. If you can connect to that, then its a DNS problem.

I can't connect to that. I don't think it's DNS because I can connect from another computer on the same LAN.

Oh I found it. Peer guardian. I didn't even know I still had it installed and it wasn't showing up in task manager for some reason.
