Looking to get a dragon cam, but everywhere seems to charge silly prices for delivery to Ireland, for example DVBSHOP.tv charges €19.99 for delivery of a cam that probably really costs about €5 max to ship here, plain rip off imho.
Anyone know an Irish retailer that sells Dragon's for a reasonable price ?

I don't know any dealer in Ireland but you could try Astratech satellite in Wales or Spectrum in England who certainly won't rip you off. I believe it's about a fiver postage to Ireland.
Both these firms are excellent by the way and highly recommended.
    regards
    D.

Judging by what happened HERE and HERE, I suspect this thread is about to be jumped upon from a great height!

As long as only use / source of CAMs for legitimate cards is discussed there isn't a problem. No discussion of how to get encrypted channels without paying.

Check Dutch and German suppliers. Postage and price for most things lower than UK and you arn't getting charged for changing currency either.

€19 courier delivery from hm-sat.de.. their dragon cam price might be better and this may be where the gain is made.... its currently listed at €85 and thats for the new version that can take a SIM card and normal smart card.

Don't forget that you will also need a dragon loader card and programmer.. because the cams are sold unprogrammed. if looking for a programmer, I recommend the Infinity USB.

I can certainly recommend hm-sat.de from experience. Even with the courier charge you'll find that they are cheaper than any of the UK outlets. The Dynamite programmer is also worth looking at.

That is not the way the powers that be see it.

Although the first of the threads mentioned only received THIS response from a moderator, MDC followed with a curt 'locked' message in response to THIS (on the face of it) innocuous post - which very specifically specified only official Sky cards could be used.

MDC went even further when challenged on his/her decision in the protest thread which followed.

Hence, "As long as only use / source of CAMs for legitimate cards is discussed there isn't a problem" is NOT accurate - it's considered to be discussion of hacking and is prohibited.

I said this in the last thread....

    And I stand by that.

Heinz. PM me or a mod if you have a problem. Other follow-ups like this will incur bannings.

You sure about that?, am assured its possible through a regular PCMCIA slot (at least the Matrix Reloaded is certainly using modified windows drivers..)..however DMC probably doesn't want a discussion of how to program a cam on here for sure so lets leave it at that.

I had exhausted googles on the topic before I had to fork out and buy my programmer.. the same question had been asked may times.. dragon cam only loads software via a loader card interface and not over pcmcia.. its physically incapable of direct download like matrix.

with the new card + SIM version that might change.. but I just googled again and saw no indication of this. Also the dragon cam download site has no mention of alternatives

Correct , you need a Dragon loader card or a Cas Interface 2 with the add on

I suspect this amounts to nothing more than Hienz being confused by the apparent inconsistency of your response when compared to that of another moderator (3 minutes before by the look of it).

BTW, why do you think her name is Crystal?

    @Seano
I think you'll find (as I did in the thread mentioned above!) that you have given a little too much information. The information I gave was nowhere near that detailed and the thread got closed because of it. Maybe you should edit your post!

For the same reasons I suppose an activated freeview card should work in one of these too i suspect ?

Time and patience... of which I have little of...

I'm all for constructive debates here about cams, BUT on the right side of legality.

One thing, Byte is not an ICDG mod, he is a mod of the Television board which is seperate in boards.ie, and his comments are in no way alligned to ICDG or its moderators.

This thread has run its course. Closed.
