Is there anyone but Dell who do customizable laptops over the net? Also, are Dell a good deal? Once you get rid of the extended warranties the prices seem really good... Thanks!

win xp is a pice of software, you can buy it in all computer shops.
bluetooth dongles cost about 30eu from computer shops
you can buy a bigger hdd for your laptop in, you guessed it, most computer shops, installing is relatively simple.

what else do you want to customise?

But why buy a laptop with a 40GB hard drive if you're going to rip it out straight away and put in an 80GB drive? Surely it'd be cheaper to get an 80GB in the first place.

Bluetooth dongles are external, maybe the OP wants an internal one so he doesn't end up carrying around accessories everywhere.

yeah that's exactly my thinking - I really just want it all together from the start and not to be paying extra - same thing goes with Windows XP pro, I don't want to pay 150 extra and then own copies of home and pro...

depends where you get it from.
dell for example charge well over the odds for hard drive upgrades and parts.

afaik main diff between home and pro xp is the ability to log onto a domain.
not important for most users i would think

Really?! is that for the upgrade or full install?

Because I'm looking at the laptops from here but my worry is that the Windows is in german and the college contact for education priced XP makes a point of saying that the Upgrade is only for english...

Why not just change the language yourself when you get it?
Might need another lappie or PC with the Xp next to you but yo could do it. Also might be worth an e-mail to Jes to see if they supply an OEM OS with the lappie and try do it that way(once agin may need english xp next to you) try googling.
