Just bought myself a tivoli model one (http://www.tivoliaudio.com/product.php?productid=139&cat=&page=) in Peats at the weekend. The sound quality is superb. Its really the first piece of quality hifi equipment I've ever bought. It also has an aux input so its great for plugging in my mp3 player.

    I can't recommend it enough.

Anyway after looking online for other quality radios I came across the Sangean models WR1 (http://www.ccrane.com/sangean-wr-1-wooden-radio.aspx) and WR2 (http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/spcialty/3281.html) and the DEGEN DE1103 (http://www.radiointel.com/review-degende1103.htm). Does anyone have any experience of these? Or know of anywhere that sells them?

    Any other recommendations?

Without wanting to sound too 'snobbish' I doubt very much if any of these radios would fall within any standard type definition of hi fi. I have not heard the Tivoli but just going on speaker size would seem to rule out the possibilities of it being 'hi fi'. Have you ever heard a good quality tuner in a true hifi system (ie true seperates?)

Have you any particular reason for being so caught up with this type of all in one radio?

Hi-fi = high fidelity = true to original sound. So given that its only mono and fm radio is broadcast in stereo - i guess you are right its not strictly hifi. But I haven't heard a radio with as good a sound, granted I haven't heard the Bose wavemaster , but I can appreciate quality of tone.

Anyway to answer your second question as to why I'm so caught up with the type of all in radio - I presume you mean as opposed to hifi separates. The answer to that is simple..... size.

The Tivoli range is pretty special, its not designed for high volume playback, its ment for high quality playback at everyday volume, I actually sell them in my shop and they sell quite well, that Said I have also nearly been punched when I told a guy it was €300 for an alarm clock......... The sound quality is pretty amazing for mono output and the build quality and styling is astounding. If its what your looking for then there is nothing better. I also consider the Creative Soundworks 740 to be an amazing "small" radio CD player, it may not have the design awards behind it like the Tivoli but it would blow the socks off you if you wanted higher playback volume.

I bought one of these in Hong Kong. It is rubbish. Far too much background hiss. The best is the Sony SRF-M 95. This gives AM as well as FM. Ottherwise go for an MP3 player with FM radio.
