i was on a weeks break in greece a while back and flew over italy on the way home. it got me thinking its not that far away after all !!i mean you can buy an italian classic here or the uk and be fleeced for nicely painted rust!! for the sake of a few days driving and a bit of a risk you could have that alfa, fiat or lancia in pretty dusty original condition and a little adventure too.has anyone done it yet and if so what advice?? :o

You might be more likely to get fleeced when you arrive with no Italian and tell them you're going back home with the car!

No sure how it is with other Italian classics, but when I was looking for a Fiat Spider I discovered there were only a tiny amount around Italy compared to a booming German/Dutch market. Also some Fiat enthusiasts a talked with said they saw very few cool old cars on a recent trip to Italy.

Lastly, you would have to know the car is very clean for you to drive it home across Europe. You'd definitely need your Euro AA cover. ;)

But the great thing these days is you can check out what's around on the interweb before you go. So go prove me wrong!

    G'luck

Yes on my trip to Italy last year I saw only VW's and Audi's mainly as well as a lot of French cars - I was very dissapointed - :(
