Does anyone know if there is a way to tune in any Italian stations (eg RAI 1,2 & 3) on a Sky Digital or Sky+ box?

First off you would need to have your dishing pointing at 13east it is atm on 28east for the Sky service. Secondly adding other channels such as these to a sky box would be a pain in the ass from what im told. Have never used a digibox so cant really comment bar that.

Yeah, if you really need RAI etc, I'd recommend a seperate dish and proper digital receiver (not the Skybox). Set the dish on Hotbird 13 degrees east of south.

For now, with your Sky box, if you go to Services >> System Setup >> Languages & Subtitles

Go to Favourite Language, change it to Italian, and Save New Settings.

Then, when you go to EuroNews on Ch 528, it's now in Italian! :) It's not much but it'll give you a start until you get another dish :)

There's absolutely no problem whatsoever using a digibox to receive RAI channels on hotbird at 13 degrees east.. Simply go to 'add channels' and enter 11766, V, 27500, 2/3.
Mediaset channels can also be added.
    Enter 11919, V, 27500, 2/3
These channels can then be viewed through other channels.
    regards

no one is saying there is a problem, just that the digibox is too restrictive in that you have to go to other channels every time to change channels which is a royal pain in the arse. a proper dvb receiver can be picked up for a hundred quid

Agreed, but you have to read the guys original question:
quote "Does anyone know if there is a way to tune in any Italian stations on a Sky Digital or Sky + box". unquote.
My reply answers that question directly.
He never hints/implies that he is interested in any other receiver, the thread simply drifted in that direction!
Your point is quite correct that a proper dvb receiver can be picked up for around £100 but maybe the guy just wants to use the gear he has got already?
    regards

At one time I had a home made three way LNB switch and three LNBs on 80cm dish for Sky Digibox (Hotbird 13E, Astra 19E and Sky 28.E). Later I wired the SCART and used the Services menu and RGB/ SCART on optons to switch the LNBs.

I found that for SKY to work, I had to tune an Astra Channel after a hotbird one. Changing from Hotbird to Sky without disconnecting the mains plug did tend to crash the Digibox. This may be different now that Sky Italia is running.

There are a huge qty of Itallian on 13E. But the more interesting (to me) channels don't work on Sky box.

AFASIK the Sky+ will view but not record.

Your biggest issue is realign of Dish for 13E, or having 2 LNBs or two dishes. It sis ABSOULTELY NOT practical to move the Sky supplied dish back and forth betwen Sky and Hotbird. It is designed to be aligned once and then rusted into place.

I used to have a Panasonic Digibox That I had rigged up for 13 19 and 28E and I cant say Ive ever had the problem you describe

As for realining a Sky minidish for Hotbird surely youd need something bigger ?Isint 70-90cm the recommended size for Hotbird depending on where in the UK or Ireland you are as opposed to a minidish which is usually 60cm (Scotland/Ireland) or 42cm (England/Wales)

Maybe that's why he used the words "biggest issue" :)

A minidish will work on Hotbird, as I've tried it, but of course, signal levels are pretty low on some weaker transponders, and I'd hate to think what signals would be like in heavy rain.
