First, sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, but I didn't know where else to ask and I thought people who visit this forum are the most likely to know.

A friend of mine from the US is coming to visit and I might get him to bring over a LCD monitor and maybe a PSP :)

What would be the situation be with import duty and VAT etc.

BTW he is a US citizen, visitng for just a few days and he will be giving this to me as a gift, in case that matters.

tell him to mark down on the psp as gift might get away without paying import tax

I might be wrong here but if he just took it out of the box and stuck it in his pocket wouldn't he not have to pay anything on it? Presumably if he owned it himself he would be playing it on the plane and not going to pay import duty on it. I cant help you with the LCD tho, unless he claimed to be watching the PSP in it. :)

Yes, it is the 20" widescreen LCD I'm more worried about :D

I figured it would be easy enough to get away with the PSP.

depends on what time he goes through customs at.

I went through with 2 ibooks and 2 powerbooks last year and chanced my arm at the green channel. It was early in the morning and there was nobody at customs anyway ;)

No problem, let him say it is for a laptop which his business colleague has brought over before. Probably won't be questioned anyway. Make sure he opens it before hand so it looks used.

I brought two 20" lcds home with me in January. Just put the stand in your suitcase, and put the screen in a carry on bag. Make sure its wrapped up properly. Just leave all the boxes in the US, no need for them.

Wait until a flight from Europe lands and then go through the Customs Channel.
