I need to buy a new pair of runners, but do alot of off road running.

since I live in Skerries, I tend to run on the beach alot, so an average run will go from road to rock to sand to grass and back again. I'm not pushed on style but want something that will give good support.

or does anyone know a decent shop to get runners in?
Anywhere like champion jsut seem concerned about well nothing...

Yeah I've been looking around trying to find a decent pair of runners as well. There's no speciality running shops in Dublin (according to runnersworld.com) so you're better off having an idea of what you want before you go in, shop assistants in lifestyle or champion sports probably won't be much help. Try runnersworld.com and .co.uk for information on getting a good shoe. Also try the brand websites. asics.co.uk have a "shoe advisor" which is very good.

If you have a list of 4 or 5 runners you're interested in before you go in, you're probably going to be able to find one you like in one of the bigger outlets, somewhere like JJB sports Blanchardstown or Champion Sports in the Jervis Street SC.

Mick Dowlings in Terenure is the nearest you will get IMHO. Mick himself does a lot of running and has a wide range of running shoes and gives great advice.

Mick Dowling is an excellent suggestion, his store is the closest we have to a running store in Dublin.

However, Arnotts are not bad either. Make sure you get talking to some of the more senior staff, though - they tend to know best.

My own personal recommendation for running shows are New Balance 765, though these are possibly inappropriate for you.

Arnotts have a sale mid-June when all their runners are greatly discounted (Asics, for example are always 50% off, New Balance, always 25% off). My advice would be to go in and get advice this weekend or next, and then buy the shoes when the sale starts.

As a rule of thumb stay away from the 'fashion' end of the Sport store market - these guys won't be able to help you in the way that you want.

I agree with Genghis. New Balance are by far and away the best I have ever run in. They are not the trendiest or prettiest but they are the safest, purpose built and best designed trainer no contest.

I got a pair on sale in Arnnotts 2 years ago and have never bought any other brand since. I think mine cost arouond €50 in the sale so you wont be fleeced in your quest(?) if you wait a week or two.

Asics or New Balance seem to be the way to go, from what I've been seeing. I've never owned a pair, but I intend to get some fairly soon. Also, if your foot is a non-standard width, New Balance do most of their shoes in a range of widths. They have a guide for figuring out your width (and length) here

Where abouts in Arnotts is the runners section?

Are these an older version of the 766?:

And could these double up for playing basketball?
